Well, as we come out of christmas i think now is a good time to start looking at a rex ring trip!
We went last august and i can safely say it was the most enjoyable weekend away ive ever had. The people are great, the track is amazing and the general atmosphere is simply excellent. The drive through europe was fun, all in all a great trip - and all can be had for not alot over the price of a day at silverstone!
When i went there, EVERYBODY was starting at my car. It seemed many of the porsche/ferrari drivers had never even seen an RX7 before!
So in short i want to arrange a big trip for us MRC boys. Price guide and itenary as follows:
leave on one Friday morning / afternoon and make our way down to the channel tunnel. Take the train over there and do the 4-5 hour drive from France over to nurburgring. Spend the Friday night in a local hotel (there are loads, all safe to leave your car in too!) and then start on the track on the saturday morning. Spend the day on the track saturday and sunday,and leave monday morning heading back to the channel tunnel.
When we went it cost us:
120 ish for train both ways PER CAR (so if you have a passenger you pay 60)
80 euros a night for hotel, double room.
laps of the ring 10 euros each.
So all in all, your looking at circa £145 for travel and accomodation + petrol costs (i think its 385 miles from france to nurburg, can be done in just over a tank if driven sensibly)
When i went i spent pretty much £500 for the entire weekend, thats everything... and i had a good few laps of the ring too.
So yeah, lets get as many as we can so we can convoy over...ive already arranged a trip with my friends, dates TBA....attendees so far are:
Me in my (by that time) 280hp ATW rex
Friend Darren in either his 330bhp S2 escort RS turbo or 380bhp 3dr cossie
Friend Chris in his 440bhp cossie engined S2 RS turbo
Friend adam in his 280bhp westfield or 260bhp skyline
friend david in his 280bhp scooby Sti
Friend James in his 200bhp fiesta RS turb
So cmon guys, let me know who is interested - i can honestly say that its well well well worth all the travel, ive been to many tracks over my short years and nurburgring beats them all hands down for experience. It really is the most rewarding drive you can get.

I think that i averaged about 15 mpg in the rex when we went in june but we sat at about 95 - 100 all the way there and back which didnt help especially with my 4:3:1 diff
Personally I\'d be keen to go... But maybe take a few days off work and go towards the end of the week and not get so much weekend traffic...
But it\'s been a couple of years since I\'ve been, I\'d love to go again!

I\'d recommend a visit for anyone thinking about going. I can\'t put my name down as my RX7 won\'t be road legal, but it is well worth the trip.

There really isn\'t any point in planning a trip until you can guarantee a full weekend with possible Friday and Monday time on track...oops sorry road! ;)

Its abouts €750 I think...The rule is that if you plan to do over 50 laps in the year it is well worth it!

Max & Phil G ..... Max has the bullet cam in his front grill and also has an overheating problem part way round but still does it in 8 mins something and Phil has a problem with his rear diff but still opens up the T51 part way round and just goes supersonic. Enjoy.

Max should have a more \'focused\' car for this years trips with a bit of luck (and time!).
They get a lot \'braver\' when they dont have passengers in the cars ;) We looked out for you this year, hopefully next year we\'ll manage to hook up out there.

I came round a blind bend to find a biker down on the road....I went to the left and Charlie went to the right....all at about 70....thankfully we were both on a bikes else we would have killed him...I did have it on video....its a scary thing to watch again!
As much I love the bikes I wish they would split the cars and bikes into sessions.
As on Max\'s video the bike after phlan3 is just getting in the way!
As for braver....having a full cage in there gives you a little more confidence ;)

Aye, a lot of people have been \'unlucky\' there over the years for sure, tbh its probably just a matter of time til we see some thing nasty while we are there :o You need to drive it within your limits - and hope others around you are too...
Bikers; a lot of great riders there - and a lot of pricks who think they are Valentino and just get in the way and cause a hazard :D

I\'m honestly surprised by the number of people who don\'t wear lids there! Last time I went we were all wearing crash helmets (admittedly we had all came from Zanvoort so had them on us).
Seems for a place that\'s so dangerous that it\'d be just a wise thing to do IMHO... Thoughts?
It\'s a public road.
Same reason you can\'t have just cars, or just bikes, or no buses.
Same reason you can with the car packed full of people, and your shopping.
Same reason you have to adhere to German traffic laws and you stay to the right unless overtaking and there is nothing behind. (I wish a lot of the UK trackdayers who go over there would remember this. Recently a UK Elise hit the ring Taxi (Sabine was driving) becuase he swung over to take the \'racing line\' when the taxi was overtaking him at the appraoch to the bend. Sabine\'s answer when the driver moaned that he had the racing line and she should have given way: "It\'s a ROAD!". Guy was in the wrong, German police sorted him out.)
When you go on a tourist day you have to remember it is not a trackday.
It is very frustrating when you have someone in front of you that wont move over! The other problem is you cant overtake on the right....left only! As Tony rightly says its a tourist day and German law rules at all times.
Strangely there are speed limits...and the police have been known to have cameras up
They have had helicopters circling over and filming anyone overtaking on the right.
Still who cares....its the best place in the world....no where else offers some fantastic driving and fantastic food!
Usually the ones that won\'t move (or even look in their mirror) are bikers. You\'d think self preservation would mean they looked behind themselves a few times in case there was a damn great queue of traffic waiting to get past. There is a speed limit at Adenau bridge.

I\'m well up for this. I\'ve been there a few times on my bikes, but never in a car. I\'m looking for another Rex at the moment, but if I don\'t have one in time, I\'ll have to go in my Pug - might have a bit of trouble keeping up!!
When is this planned for? I was thinking of going the weekend 02/03-05/03 anyway.

The car will be running exceptionally well by then, plus it is open pretty much a full weekend plus days either side for the truly committed!!
