Title: Determining an ABS fault
Post by: Jit on December 25, 2006, 06:35:23 PM
Hi,

is there any way the ABS ecu can tell you if tthere is a faulty sensor and if so which one? I recently foundout the abs buld had been removed and i already knew that the abs was kicking in under breaking but i could tell from which side it was doing it!

Can the ABS ecu give a code rather like an engine compter can?

cheers

Jitesh

i got no abs on mine atm and no light comes up not even on startup, but occasionally when turning and lightly braking the brake springs around as if it were engaging the abs....

errr yeah i think it can - no idea how you get the code out of it though

prob is - you might need the bulb in to tell you !

Did this myself last week.  You need to get the the ABS computer in front of the rear NS light cluster.  Easier said than done as most of the boot trim has to come out...

Page P51 of the Workshop manual shows you which terminals to bridge across with a tester, but i found the ones shown in the manual are mirror imaged to mine   LHD maybe?  You can take the plastic shroud off and see the wire colours which helps though.

Anyway, looks like both my front sensors are fduk\'d after prising them out of the hubs when changing all the bushes to poly\'s, more expense...

Cheers
Jon

Who needs ABS anyway! Its like traction control!! FD drivers are more skilled than the average driver and they need to be the way these cars can step out!!

Most of the PDF manuals are from the US FD!
