Yes you can get bigger it depends what width rim your getting though the tyres need to be the right size for the rim, I\'m running 265/45/17 on the back.

I would go for eagle F1\'s there an awewsome tyre, I\'ve always like bridgestone S03\'s but they\'ve been discontinued and there replacment isn\'t much cop, I\' have pirelli P-zero\'s and to be honest I don\'t rate them, unless your going for a semi slick then I\'d run F1\'s.

cheers for the advice everyone, i\'ll go for the 265 tyres, they seem quite wide, they should hold the road a bit better

P.S. wider isn\'t always better.

I\'ve got 225/45/17 Front and 255/40/17 on the rear (8" Front and 9.5" Rear)

I have gone for Toyo T1-R\'s and i\'m very happy with them. i could not coment on how long they will last but they don\'t seem to be doing bad at the moment.

i did have 235\'s on the front but they caught the front wings so i went one down and they are fine now.

F1 are leraser and will be down pretty fast (like some Yokohamas) from my personal experience. Bridgestone are better at this point but S03PP will be like oval when you dont use your car weekly. (luckily, them get round again after few miles)

On my FD I have F1 tires and except the wear, I like them. Them are pretty good when wett and cornerig speed is very high.
On my FC I have Brisgestone S01 from Japan (race tires) and I love them! Very high cornering speed, them are not hard like another Japanese tires and them are supeb on wett roads.

so just my 2p

255/40/17 was a standard size on later models !! Im running potenzas on the rear, don\'t really rate them too much. Get quite alot of wheelspin :)

Im running 225/45/17 Khumo Ku15\'s up front and they feel really nice.

It ca depend on what you want to use the car for, is it a daily driver or weekend blaster ?

I don\'t think you can get F1\'s in 265 guise

I have michelin Pilot Sport II\'2, and they are pretty good, 255/35/19 rear 225/35/19 front

pretty lively in this weather though :-)

Apart from the slicks....which are exceptionally cheap at £200 per set :D

I run Dunlop D02J I run a 235 on the front and a 245 on the rear.  You need to keep an even balance, and as said big isn\'t always beautiful.....too much grip at the rear will lead to understeer and then too much at the front will lead to oversteer.

The Dunlops are fantastic tyres on the car....however I didn\'t like them at the Ring in the wet!  Good for paying towards the Armco fund....I was pushing though ;)  In the dry however, they really do grip!!!

Another good tyre is the Pirelli Corsa bit soft but loads of grip....depends on budget as well

ive got 265/35/18s on the rear and 235/40/18\'s on the front in Goodyear Eagle f1\'s and im really happy with them, they still step out really easy in the wet in 1st n 2nd but 3rd they chew the tarmac just fine :)

ive had them since august and ive not been shy with the rears if you get me and ive still got about 5mm tread on them,

I paid £470 for the tires all round from my mates place in Bracknell, bargin!

toyos are great tires but very soft so do not last as long...

While were on this subject if you don\'t mind me asking i had 235/45/17\'s on the front of my Car when i first bought it, thing is they had done a real Number on my Wings (saying that is was on stock Suspension)

What is the best Offset for for use with 235\'s so they don\'t catch? or is it a case of using Coil overs (which i now have BTW) to stiffen it up enough so it won\'t get pushed down that far to start with?

Also Atomic, I am intrested in the More ballance Comment. If i have 8.5" fronts and 9.5" rears could i still change to 235\'s and 245\'s or as i\'m on 255\'s would it make alot of Diffrence at the back?

I\'ll have a look what Offsets my wheels are (if i can find it on them)

I\'m just struggling to see the Off sets on those rims but i have another set of 17" rims(Enkies) that are 8" fronts and 9" rears all four are have 38 stamped in them so i presume thats the Offset. What would be the ideal Tyre set up (sizes) for them too keep the ballance as good as poss.

Cheers...

Unfortunatly I don\'t have size lists in front of me but I worked for a tyre specialist for 2 years. The owner used to run the BTCC team for YOKO before they removed turbos for the cars. Before that he was a tyre specialist for Yoko! From what I learnt you should idealy run original offsets and as close to original rolling radius as possible as to not affect handling, spedo and extra wear on bearings etc......Remember the wider you go on tyre size the taller the tyre becomes as the profile size is a percentage of the width. So a 205/40 will be shorter / less rolling radius than a 245/40.
As long as tyre wear isn\'t a factor and your after standard road tyres I\'d reccommend either Goodyear eagle F1\'s (GSD3) or Toyo Proxes T1-R or T1-S. All three are great in the Wet and the Dry. For better grip go for something like the Dunlops mentioned earlier or 888\'s. Any semi-slick road legal tyre but remember they are absolutely rubbish if it starts to rain!

Don\'t get me wrong i have 225/45/17 and 255/40/17 T1-r\'s and i can\'t fault it on the road, but the reason i\'m asking is i want to get into Track days in a big way so want to get the most Ballanced set up i can withing reason.
