HI all, trying to diagnose a problem and after looking in the factory manual I am lost as to whether my ht leads are in spec resistance wise, I am not electrical mined at all as you can probably gather from me not grasping what some class as the basics in ohm, but I am trying
I have a 92 FD and in the manual it states
Specification 16 K(ohm symbol) per 1M {3.28ft}
Checked my leads on a 20K setting on my cheap maplins multi meter and the lowest reading I get is 5.90 on one of the leads my leads are the standard Mazda ones am I correct in thinking my leads are about 12 icnh’s long so I multiply the reading by 3 to get it to the 1m specified in the manual to calculate if they are within specification?
My other 3 leads read 7.20 ish
Anyone any idea’s please.
Thanks
If your leads were 30cm you could have done 16k(ohms) multiplied by 0.3 (meters) = 4.8k
Your readings of 5.9 - 7.2 really aren\'t that high, it\'ll just increase the spark duration a bit and give off less radio interference.
Just as important is the insulation from the carbon core to the outside of the lead. But you wont be able to measure that. Check for cracks in the rubber and the leads should be nice and flexible.
If yours are the originals then i\'ts probably time to change them judging by my own \'92 leads.
Cant promise it\'ll fix your problem, but it\'s one less thing to go wrong when you drive through a puddle etc.
