Title: looking for a special 1st gen
Post by: willem on December 19, 2006, 10:12:05 PM
Hi,

Since a few months I am seriously looking for a first gen Rx7.
And I am checking out what 1st gen Rx7 are for sale (mainly in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, and possibly the UK).
I have seen several:
- standard models
- Janspeed (I believe I saw that one on an English site)
- imported USA versions
- TWR versions (or at least, that is what I have been told).

Can anyone tell me what this model is (will try to attach a few pics).
I have been told that it is a TWR version.
The spoiler set says "KW" and "special edition". It is in two-tone grey, which has been used by TWR in the past (also on Jaguars). So I would think that it really is a real TWR-Rx7.

Hope someone can give me some advise here.

thanks,
Willem (Netherlands).

Hi Willem

Welcome to MRC.

Dave Collins beautiful 1st Gen is up for sale.  See the link below.

http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32715

This car has been known to the club and me for the last seven years and is an excellent example of 1st Gen Rx-7 car, that was only used for car shows.

If interested please email Dave Collins, if you are unable to do this, please let me know and I will ask him to contact you by email.

Hi Lisa,

that one indeed looks fine!
In fact I have seen quite a lot of 1st gens for sale on your forum today.
Also a few TWR versions.

BUT:
I have also read that I am not the only one that wonders whether or not a certain car is a real TWR version.
Can anyone clarify how I can check this, and if the car that I am interested in really is a TWR version??

thanks.

BTW: as a newbie on this forum, I would like to say that I really like it so far: lots of info and nice pics on the forum!! :Thumbs-up

Hi Willem

Thank you.

Why not send a private message to Dave Collins, he is a big rotary fan and has many years of experience of motor cars and motor racing.

Thats a beautiful Rx7 :mmmm

Despite having owned a TWR Rx7, I know very little about them but that is definately a TWR bodykit. The front spoiler is certainly a TWR part and this should have TWR embossed in small letters just above the main air intake. Haven\'t seen the splitter on a TWR spoiler before though. It looks great but not sure if original. The side skirts and rear lower spolier are also TWR parts judging by the photos. The rear upper spoiler looks like an Elford turbo part to me (a better looking design than the TWR spiler in my opinion) but couldn\'t be sure. Is the KW marking a sticker? I dont think the Elford spoilers had writing on them.

hmm, I have to go to the car salesman again and check, didn\'t really notice if there was any embossed logo there. Oh, just remember, I have made some more detailed pics myself, will check them, and if they\'re nice I will also post them.

Don\'t know if it is a sticker, but the markings are in 2 positions:
1st one is on the back, just left to the "special" logo.
2nd one is on the left and right side just behind the doors on the b-doorstyle (is that correct English??).

BTW: is there someone on the forum who is really familiar with TWR versions.
I already noticed that you guys (and girls) know a lot about the rx-7, but TWR\'s seem to be another thing... how come?

rgds, Willem.

IIRC, there are a fair number of 1st gens riding around with the TWR bodykit, but thats more or less the total extent of what TWR had to do with them, the Elfords are a different matter - but theres plenty of info on the elford turbos if you are willing to do a google search :Thumbs-up
