Title: Going to do a coolant flush - Best place to get distilled water?
Post by: RemarkLima on December 17, 2006, 10:37:32 AM
I\'ve always been a bad person in the past and either used pre-mix or tap water... So just wondering where\'s the best place to get a lot of distilled water, surely it\'s pretty expensive to buy it in litres at a time???

Cheers,
Mark

Halfords do a 4 or 5 litre bottle for about £5 so not bad at all.
At least I think it was about that. Labled as battery water.

Yup Halfrauds battery top up water is the one I think its somewhere between 3 - 4 pounds a go. Its a better idea to use this instead of tap water or Evian as you shouldn\'t get limescale build up.

I seem to remember doing an emergency coolant top up on someones FD with Robinsons orange drink lol!!!

Cheers guys, decided I couldn\'t face the hell that is Halfrauds (a queue about 30 miles long with 1 poor 14 year old girl struggling along...), so went to another little auto shop and yep, they had 5L for about £3 so that was all good.

But they only had red and blue coolant, not really anything branded sadly, just generic GE blue stuff... So, I guess as long as it has corrosion inhibitors and anti-freeze properties it should be OK...

And after a bit of a drive, temp is all stable, coolant buzzer works when I was topping up, rad warms up, everything looks A OK! Hurrah! So used about 3L of coolant and the rest de-ionised water. I think they\'ll be some old coolant still in there, mainly in the engine part, but I flushed the front section throughly and it was much clearer in the engine are 2nd time round.

The best tip I read was removing the hose to the throttle body! Very handy!
