why do walbro have a relatively bad reputation ojn the rx7 side, where as 200sx boys say they are the best in the world.
Rx7 owners say the bosch 044 (?i think thats what its called) is one of the best pumps where as the 200sx boys say bosch is unreliable.
i had a new fuel pump fitted to my car (walbro) wich blew my engine up after 3200 miles (yer thats right the engine was freshly rebuilt at the same time as the fuel pump and it failed causing the enevitable). i am now getting a bosch 044 fitted.
just wondered how there can be such mixed views?
had a walbro 255L on my evo V no problems loads of evo\'s use them, Pip put one on my RX7 a couple of weeks ago and the pump died on the way home lasted 47 miles- lucky no damage.Just a couple of bad ones i guess
Jaysus - I was thinking of a Walbro 255l one too - better go with the Bosch! :2eek
Why do our cars kill Walbro\'s? What\'s the difference? :3Confused
Pip put new walbro in been fine
Use Walbro as well... nothing bad after hmm, something like 6.000 miles. I fit this pumps to many customer cars as them are nice and inexpansive.
We would supply 044 as well but them cost 3 times more than walbro. This is all upto the customer, and you get what you pay for :).
However, they are lots of RX-7s out there with Walbro fitted no problem, and many with Bosch. I think they are also few ppl. with bad Walbros and Bosch es well.

So what is the difference betwene the pumps to be paying a lot more for the Bosch?
I think a lot of the boys on rx7club.com use walbros with good results.

Loads have :( :( :(
I think mine is a Walbro, as Pip supplied and fitted it 18 months ago and its been running fine (fatal last words) since it was fitted about 5000 miles ago.
Loads of people on rx7club.com seem to be using them with no probs as said before. I guess its like anything, get a bad batch from the factory and the inevitable will happen.
my 200sx had a walbro in it when i got it, fitted about 40,000 miles nearly 3yrs ago - and seems to do the job. Better replace it soon though i suppose seeing as i\'m tempting fate!

Dude, are you having to pay for the whole rebuild ? :-(
Quote from: strange_days_ukDude, are you having to pay for the whole rebuild ? :-(
no luckly not. i got the impression that if i had fitted the pump or got it fitted then i would have been!!!!!! however as pip fitted it at the same time as rebuild and everything else he has put the rebuild bill etc onto the fuel pump supplier for suppling a dodgy fuel pump, lucky for pip and for me!!!!:cool :cool :cool
RE sult !!!!
This is a bit of a thread Hijack, but does anyone know if the SARD 280 Lph in-tank pump fits an FD? Probably a bit too much for my needs I think...

How many engines have we had fail with the Walbro? Apart from this one I could only find 1 other on the interweb.
Was the pump a total failure? Or did it start stop start stop die? Was thinking that if it just stopped completly wouldnt this be like running out of fuel and spluttering to a halt?
Took this picture so people can see the difference betwene the Bosch 044 and Walbro 255l pump - Bosch is on the left.

wow - i know size isn\'t everything but i doubt i\'d get the bosch through the tank access port on the 200sx, maybe thats why nissan owners use walbros!
do you guys know the TRUE flow rate of the bosch 044 exteranl pump and the bosch 040 pump?
i require a base flow rate of 190ltr/hr @3bar, i have previously used an 044 on my cosworth and it was excellent, however i know i will also need to purchase a swirl pot therefore i considered the 040 internal pump to replace the OEM part in the tank.
Any help is apprecieated
Well I was told that technicially the 040 is still an external pump to which I said I thought we used our\'s in tank? :3Confused
Standard pump is 210 l/hour IIRC not sure what the pressure is??
I heard of lots of problems with Walbro Bosch aswell and my old fuel pump died on the rollers...
I put in a Syntec and am now getting over 4bar of pressure on WOT...
Not bad... Altho i have lots of wires coming from the fuel pump eletrics and if anything touches off them the pump dies.. And theres a live goin direct to the battery(which is in the bucket behind my seat) Anytime stuff in the boot hits it it dies... No major happenings yet tho.. Must get it looked at before it does happen tho...
Heres a pic...

There is a way of adapting the 044 to fit in-tank (this is the plan with mine)
From what I have been told, the Walbro has a problem with pressure tailing off at WOT (which you don\'t want) and its flow rate is nowhere near 255l at full WOT. I haven\'t run a Walbro so this is pure heresay, but I would go with whatever your tuner is happiest with.
Thanks Andy - So a sudden failure of the pump will not cause an engine to fail then.
When I said I could only find one instance where a Walbro took a rotary\'s life was when the sock had fallen off the pump and sucked crud from the fuel tank which damaged the internals on the pump.
So that puts us at 1 engine failure due to a Walbro 255l. So unless this is like Sadgoth says about the capasity & pressure then I guess it was just one of those things you cant do anything about?

Thank you my good man - this is the info I was after! :god

I herd that they are a very good pump where did you get it from and how much?
thanks
i pressume mine didnt die all together cause after the apex seal chipped i still drove it for a couple of miles slowly and it ran so it must def still work. but when pip put it in another car he said the pressure dropped off, so it was def the pump which caused my engine to run lean and chip a seal.

I got mine from here http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/apexi%20gtr%20pump.htm
At the time i needed to get one quick so i went for the first place that had them in stock but if you shop about you can get them for a better Price than that.
I would recomend them Highly.
