Following on from this thread (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32880) I’m looking to fit a nice set of wide wheels to my FD to replace my rather skinny 8.5†18s. Either 19†or 18†wheels to chose from, depending which you guys think would look the best :)
Ive just gotta get that wide look, without it looking half hearted lol. Im going to get the car dropped even further using my coilovers and go for nice stretched rubber on the wheels to look the part.:2eek
To do this i need to know what would be the widest wheels I could run on an FD with standard width rear arches and RE Amemiya FRP front arches. Maybe 9.5 back and 9 front, or 9s all round? Would an offset of 35 work, or should I go higher or lower for that wide look?
Also which size tyres would be best to strrreeeeeetch over these?
Please help, the sale sesaon is upon us (ish!!!)
Chris
hmmm never keen on stretched tyres. Tyres are funny things, you don\'t know what sort of problems it could cause. I\'d say you would be on very dodgy ground if you were to have a tyre that blew out and caused an accident. People who design the tyres give a range of rim widths to fit tyres on ... and most likely for good reason.
I had 10.5" on the rear of mine and i think 9" on the front,19" wheels.Offset i cannot remember,i ordered the same wheels for Dave Thompson(sicknote) so maybe you could ask him. They are the Blitz Technospeeds.
Tyres on the rear were 275/35/19 and front was 235 or 245/30/19

I recon they are loads lower offset than 35. Car has a load of neg camber on the moving pic which helps them to fit.
But to get it like that youll need fairly stiff suspension, neg camber and a good amount of stretch with the arches rolled.
Its nothing too radical, its how half the drift cars are done really.
I\'m running:-
Fronts..19x8.5....5/114-35 with 235/35YR -19 Tyres.
Rears..19x10....5/114-40 with 265/30YR-19 Tyres.
Well stretched on the rears, the fitters had fun sqeezing them on!
Just about to sell:
Front Buddy Club Racing PII Plus in 19x8.5 +38 on 235/35/19
Rear Buddy Club Racing PII Plus in 19x9.5 +38 on 265/30/19
Rears aren\'t as stretched as Pete\'s, but there is no reason you can\'t change the tyres over. I\'m contemplating price at the mo, will let you know.

Failing that i\'ll try the neg camber idea. Ive got "RaceGear" coilovers and they are hard as hell! Just need to sort out some adjustment on the camber for the look.
Will keep you updated!
IMHO you dont really have stretch on those 19 inch wheels with the tyre sizes quoted above. Its just they dont really have a sidewall to begin with lol.
Running something like a 225 on 9.5J is stretched, id just say 265 was the normal size tyre. But obv you prob wouldnt get something with a 30 profile to have much move in it, with a 17 youd have a 45 or something.
Tyres on my Buddy Clubs are currently the right size for the wheels, keeping rolling radius correct within a percent or so of the originals. They fit nicely under stock arches, but look a little lost under my new wide arch kit. If you want to change the tyres to get the european stretched look, it\'s your call.
Don\'t have pics on my work PC, but I will post some older pics later tonight of them under my stock arches, and also figure out a price.
Cheers, Craig
Hi Craig,
Much apeciated, photos would give me a good idea what the BC wheels look like on an FD.
As you say I can always change the tyrs over if and when required. My bro drives a rather nice MX5, wearing rather wide 16\'s and his tyres are stretched even more that Petes FD! He had them stetched when he bought the wheels, for that euro look. ;)
Just get me a price when you have the time fella, oh and one last thing? Whats the colour of them? :)

BC\'s are gunmetal with polished rims
Hi Chris
Do you find that running coilovers makes a big difference? Ive got 18s on mine at the moment and the tires are rubbing on the arches on full lock and touch the top of the arches when the car bottoms out. Ive got the RE Amemiya FRP arches which I think are similar to yours. Someone mentioned that a 225 would be a stretch on an 9.5". Does anyone know if an 18/225/35 would be alreight on 8.5" rims?
Sos to hijack your thread a bit chris

Hey no probs fella :)
Coilovers make a big difference - the ride just doesnt move, yet its also hard as fooook!
Chris
Hi Craig,
Looking good fella! Think a re-spray in gold / bronze would be the order of the day to match my own motor.
Have you got a price for me guv? :)
Chris
Chris, I agree on the gold/bronze, would look awesome :)
PM me and we can talk...
