Title: Plugs
Post by: Andyp on December 11, 2003, 09:51:10 PM
Elo,

Thinking of checking the state of my plugs at the weekend while I\'m doing a few bits and bobs...

I know how to get to my plugs etc. Once you\'ve got to the dam things is there any kind of process in removing them from thier little house :)

Gonna take the digi cam outside when I do all of them and do a step by step guide for our lovly how to section if no one beats me to it

thanks in advance

Ahh, 5 degrees, skinned knuckles,a ching back - lovely :)

If u dont own already, go to halfords and acquire a short 3/8 drive ratchet, a small extendy bit (depending on what size hands you have) and an appropriately sized spark plug socket. Oh, and a packet of latex gloves. Stops the ming from ruining your last manicure during the change and you\'ll probably have a spare pair for amusement later on ;-)

Remove the plastic elbow that connects the intercooler to the throttle body, probably a mazda clip at the intercooler end and 4 x 10mm nuts attaching the other end to the T/B.

If you\'re not sure which go where, make sure the plug leads are marked or otherwise identified as to which goes where before you remove them...

Now, without getting too annoyed, work out the best way for YOU to get the buggers out, this may be ratchet in the 6 o clock position for one, 12 o clock for another etc. Depends on your hands and the tools you\'re using but you\'ll find \'your\' way and the next time you do it it\'ll take 5 minutes instead of 2 hours. Once you get a feel for where they are you can do it by touch which is a lot less back breaking :)

If they come out easy peasy then good on ya. If u never think you\'ll get em out perserve and try another route e.g. from under the car may be (too cold and much hassle IMO) if you can get it under it some how...

Next...

They just unscrew Andy. There not usually done up too tight either so should be easy depending what tool you use. I have a Mazda tool specific for removing the plugs on a fd. Makes life alot easier.

mmm my car does NOT like being lifted... my mechanics ramp is a right ass to get it onto.. basically the clamps wont fit under the sides as its too low...

last time we had to jack it from the back then slide them under... total pain.. :)

Yes Andrew, they unscrew :)

Half the cars that come into Geff\'s have to be jacked first to get them on the lifts. Right pain!

OR

Get 4 wooden blocks, drive car towards ramp, stop a foot short, put blocks under wheels, drive onto blocks, voila!

Legs of lift now fit under your bling bling lowrider ;)
