Post by: .Aklaim on December 07, 2006, 08:16:32 PM
Hi all, I was just wanting a profeshional opinion from all you guys on this car :) http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/cars_search.asp?searchform=&modelexact=1&lid=search_used_cars_full&photo=1&state=none&sort=&hassearched=Y&make=MAZDA&min_pr=7000&source=0&model=RX7&max_pr=8000&agerange=&mileage=&miles=1500&trim=&keywords=&postcode=ex16+8jj&ukcarsearch_full.x=25&ukcarsearch_full.y=8

(Its the 1992 MAZDA RX7 Turbo,Black,49,000miles,Enkei blue and black wheels etc.Being sold by a company called charlsworths :) Priced at £7,995

Basically I was just wondering if you think this is a good price for this car? It is a fresh import and is being prepared for me for next tuesday when I am going to pick it up. But before I do I just wanted to hear what afew of you thought about it? The main thing I am worried about is the fact it has done 49,000miles and I really dont want to buy it then have to pay for a rebuild for acouple of years, do you think it will be ok???

Hope to hear back from someone,Thanks Dan

Deleted my comments, read the wrong bloody add!!!

Right found the right one so here goes! In my honest opinion i don\'t like the look of it. Bad fitting bonnet, might be able to adjust it on the catch. Not sure on those alloys either. Looks like something is missing from the rear apron by the number plate surround. Definately need to see the paper work for the mileage. Any idea whats hanging down in the cockpit shot?
Best colour though!! Too much money though!!!!!!!!!

Man, £7995 is goin a bit. You could get a car with a fresh rebuild for less.

if there is NO rebuild then i would say its rather expensive - but thats just me

for that price - buy a 4-5K ebay car - and get a rebuild done for £3k and you KNOW its been done

I think you could get more for your money, just look through the for sale section on this site for the low prices that some of these cars are going for.
The price will always be higher if sold by a trader as they have more costs to cover.

If it has been modded (it mentions 300bhp, a \'92 was around 265bhp standard, plus I can see an aftermarket exhaust) then the 49k miles may be nearer the engine lifespan than you think.

Read through this thread for quality information on what to look out for when buying an RX-7: - http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=256

Don\'t mean to be a kill Joy but have to agree with what has been said.
That is more than double what I paid for mine and it could well need a rebuild soon.
The aftermarket stuff is only worth extra if that\'s exactly how you want it. But IMHO I would (and did) go for one for £3500 and budget for rebuild and extra bits to your taste.
I mean I\'ve even seen single Turbo ones on here going for that kind of money and newer too!!! So take a look on here first and look at loads don\'t just buy with heart as it can be expensive buy with head all good things come to those who wait.
All the best whichever way you go but keep us updated.:wave

Hi guys, Thanks alot for all your replys it is greatly appreciated. I was really worried about the fact that it had done this many miles but I do really like the car. However I know you guys ar experts in this :) so I think I will take your advise and not buy it.

This is the other car I was looking at:
http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/cars_search.asp?page=1&searchform=&modelexact=1&lid=search_used_cars_full&photo=1&state=none&sort=&hassearched=Y&make=MAZDA&min_pr=6000&source=0&model=RX7&max_pr=7000&agerange=&mileage=&miles=1500&trim=&keywords=&postcode=ex16+8jj&ukcarsearch_full.x=28&ukcarsearch_full.y=8

It should be the third 1 down, Black,6000miles,1993. It is from a company called Tony Guilbert car ltd.

I really wanted a car with a kit on, But this car is in black which is what I am after and it has had a full rebuild 6,000miles ago. The only thing I dont really like on it is the spoiler but other than that I think it is a really nice car.

What do you all think of this car as apose to the other one??

Again hope to hear back from you all, Thanks Dan :)

This looks better IMO but make sure the rebuild is documented and still under warrenty otherwise could be exactly same problems.
Any reason you are only looking at dealers as at this time of year some real bargin private sales can be found?

Post by: .Aklaim on December 07, 2006, 11:48:17 PM
Yea unfortunatly I am looking at dealers as I am doing a part x so have no other choice. I am selling a custom VW transporter you see, so not alot of traders are intrested in doing a partx as it is an unusuall vechicle. But out of all the people that have said they would do a part x these are the best cars in my opinion.

My vechicle is up for sale and hopefully someone is coming to look at it tomorrow. Hopefully I will get £8,700 for it. So if it sells I will have the money to look privately which will be a big help. Unfortunatly If it does not sell I will have to do a partx as I was cought speeding the other day, so if i dont buy my RX7 soon the points will be added to my licence and Insurance will go up abit to much;) I only have about 5 more days to reply to the speeding offence and get my points and fine so really wanted to buy my car this weekend.

Fingers crossed that this guy buys my van tomorrow :) If not then i think the car in the secon link I posted will be the car for me :)

Also guys just to ask, where is the part on this forum where there are cars for sale so that I can have a look???

Good luck with finding your car!:)

1st one.

Someone can\'t tell there Enkei’s from there Advans… well over priced for a 92 with no rebuild and relatively stock. I wish they were that much, but sadly, its not worth that even with a rebuild. 5.5 maybe 6K Max.

2nd one.

Doesn’t look as nice as the 1st one and those wheels are hideous! Still top money for a stock car. You can get something better from the adverts on here at a better price.

Best bet sell your current car and at this time of year get one from Japan, they are so cheap at the moment, talk to an importer that has direct links to garages in Japan (not auction halls) who will be able to source a car to a specification you’re after. Then once it’s delivered the weather should be getting nice so you don’t have to learn to drive an RX7 in the rain.

Good luck with your future purchase.

As for pictures of my van go to this website then go to vans for sale and it is the black 1 second one down:)

Right ok guys I have a predicament. I was agreed on a swap for the 2nd car but the day before I went to pick it up he rang to say someone had just came up and brought it, so.........
The other guy that was preparing the 1st car for me got intoch after I had email him saying that I didnt really want that car as it had done 2 many miles and couldnt afford to pay for a rebuild for afew years after buying the car.

This is what he emailed me bk:
I have checked with our workshop and they say that the engine is very good
and not showing any signs of wear or re build requirements.  With that I am
more than happy to extend the warranty to 12 months for no extra money.

Please advise

James

So basically I just wondered if you guys think I should go ahead and do the part x with him and get this car? He says if in the first year the car engine breaks and needs a rebuild it will be covered by the warrenty, do you think he is telling me the truth or will he try to windle his way out of it somehow if it actually happens?

Please help guys I really dont know what to do as I really like the car but was worried about the high miles but now he has said this i just dont know what to do? shall I go for it????????

Thanks Dan

Hmmm, have they said what they\'ll do if the engine goes pop i.e. will they try and rebuild it themselves or pay for a specialist to do it? Sounds like he\'s just saying anything to get a sale. Honestly think your best bet is to offload your van and then have a good look around. It\'s never the best idea to rush when buying a car, especially with a car like the RX7. Do lots and lots of research and have a look at a good few before taking the plunge....It\'ll save you money in the long run.

12 month warranty gives you pleanty of time to save up incase it duz.
Some engine rebuilds if not dun proply could last less than that.

Tempting,,,,,, if its what you want then go for it but rember there are better cars for the money.

Mate check with the warrenty company first, ask them if they will pay for a full Rotary engine rebuild if it goes POP!!. Do not trust anything till you have this confirmed. I had a warrenty when I bought my car all those years ago, and guess wot when it went wrong they did not want too know. I only got my money back when I complained to the original source that I bought the warrenty from.

Try and do as they other guy\'s have said on here, do your best to sell your transport first and then haggle the nuts off of someone with a nice wad of cash in your hands. There are some really nice examples on this forum always popping up for sale, if you buy this way you know you are getting a car from a like minded person who cares for their cars as much as yourself.

I do not want to try to tell you how to suck eggs my friend, just be real careful. These cars a fantastic to drive, own and look at but they need to be setup properly and be mantained properly as well.

Please please think with your head and not just with your heart, this way you can come out the winner with RX of you liking and maybe dreams:InLove . You dont want a nightmare instead. Good luck and if you ain\'t sure of anything keep asking questions on here, this place is packed with people who know their stuff. Like I said good luck and happy hunting.......cheers Leigh.

Thanks alot for that insight Lee has helped:) I know I should try to sell my vechicle first but I am now soooo fed up with timewasters. I really like that RX so am still thinking about it.

The guy says that his warrenty\'s are underwritten by the RAC dunno if that means much though?

If I brought that car and it lasted me 2 years id be happy. The engine has done 49,000miles so if it did last to its recomended 60,000 then it would last me about 2 years I would think as I am also getting a car to go to and fro work to save petrol etc. So I might just risk it but I cant decide lol:)

The guy seems like a really nice guy and his company have been importing cars for over 10 years now so im sure he knows his stuff, But he is bound to say all that to get a sell so I dunno :S

Ahhhhhhhhhh cant decide :(

By the way as this will be my first RX7 so I just wondered how much on adverage you would say it costs to run the car a month? (not including fuel) also what are the main things to look out for? I think I now no a fair bit about the cars as have been researching into them for over a year now but just wanted some experts advice ;)

Thanks for all this help guys really appreciate it :)

Dan

Well, considering 6 or 7 different people have said don\'t do it and you\'re still trying to find reasons to buy it must mean you really really like this car! At the end of the day it\'s your money and you\'ve gotta make the call. I still think it\'s waaaay overpriced, with or without the warranty, but I wish you the best of luck whatever you decide to do.

It is a very nice car Eddie but like I said earlier I have the problem that I need to do a part x as I still have my van and cant be bothered to re-advertise it. I need to be as quick as possible getting my new car as I have a speeding conviction in about a week so I will be getting points on my licence which means my insurance goes up by about anoth £500. So anyone intrested in a part x for there mazda for a georgous VW Transporter please let me know :)

the link to look at the van is afew posts up up from this 1 so have a look if intrested in it :)

You wouldnt be intrested in a PX would you Eddie? ;)

Make sure you read the small print of the warranty. Even if its through someone reputable, it will still only cover what\'s described in the warranty. I had one guy trying to sell me a car with a warranty, when I read it it covered cambelts and valves, which are hardly relevant, and no mention of anything rotary as you might expect. You don\'t want to be having the argument about what a tip seal is with the warranty company after its gone pop......
Title: Please Help!!!!
Post by: Rotorboy65 on December 10, 2006, 04:07:57 PM
Dan you say you are getting speeding points soon, so this will put up the insurance. Even if you got the car before the points you still have to tell your insurance company about said points. So surely this will effect the insurance but just at a later date/time . If you do not tell them about the points and you later try to make a claim of some sort it\'s more than likely they will question your honesty. This could effect your coverage, how sick would you be if they turn around and say you are not insured?. Food for thought methinks!!

Also still not sure on the warreny cover like Mave said check out the small print. A dealer will do his best to sell a car at this time of year, and unless he is offering a good deal on the transporter I would still think carefully before jumping in. Like I said before think with you head and not your heart you dont wanna end up with egg on yer face:) . Hope this helps..........cheers Leigh.
