Title: Can someone confirm the \'standard\' rear speaker size in an FD?
Post by: elford_tim on December 07, 2006, 02:13:40 PM
\'Standard\' as in "a car that doesn\'t have a Bose system fitted", that is.

I\'d like to get the ICE in the FD sorted out while RoTechniks has most of the interior still in pieces so I don\'t have to go and take the car apart again as soon as I get it.

As I don\'t want to sacrifice the boot to a sub that\'s big enough to see from space :D and generally prefer stealth installs anyway, the plan is to fit a set of decent components to the front and a pair of subs in the original mounting space on the back. So far, so good.

However browsing the forum, some people seem to suggest that the rear speakers are either 6x8 or 6x9. Can someone confirm which of the two is correct as I can get some very decent 6x9 subs but the choice is pretty much non-existent for 6x8s.

The standard for the rears is 6x8, which is as you say quite an unusual size. I think that 6x9\'s can be made to fit relatively easily though.

Gack. Stuck my head into the car while I was at RoTechniks anyway and borrowed a tape measure to work out what I can fit into the stock locations. The answer - not the subs I was planning to put in there as I\'ve got about 70mm mounting depth and the subs want 85.

So the new plan is to remove the reat seat, turn the horizontal part into a carpet shelf to mount the subs on and stick the amp on a suitably altered backrest.
