I have just got home after an 8hour plus drive in my new fd from scotland,as i arrived in my home town the old bill pulled me,which was a first for me.But luckily i knew one of the coppers and then we just stoood chatting about the car :)
I have a couple of niggling probs already though
Oil pressure light stays on 90% of the time.
ABS light on all the time
Car feels very skittish
CRAP and i mean CRAP headlights :reallymad
Was it wet? If it was then the FD does feel a bit lively, do u know if the tyres are Japanese? if they r this could also account for bad handling. The oil guage on the FD is not the best so it might be best to get an aftermarket one.
Best not to drive it until you know why there is no oil pressure! Obviously check the oil level first.
Mine has crap headlights too, so I guess that\'s normal. Anyone know if it\'s the design of the lamps, or insufficient wiring?
This will sounds stupid, but on my old red FD I regularly used to get to the point that I could barely see the end of the bonnet; the reason was the headlights were covered in winter road shite. A quick clean every couple of days and they were fine.
Admittedly though, the FD units arent the greatest...
As for the oil light - check the oil! although if its on for a genuine reason I imagine you\'d have killed her already!
Well the oil light was on for entire journey which was 8 and a half hours and the car seemed fine, maybe the sensor is playing up.
I cleaned the headlights twice and they were still really bad, which bulbs do you guys recommend.
so was there oil in it ? is there now ? :)
The guy said he had put alot in it the day before i will check it now to see how much it has left.
probably best mate, might just need a top up
FD\'s burn oil faster than normal cars

I just replaced my original bulbs with "super brilliant" Xenon ones from Halfords - http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3123.
They are claimed to be 50% brighter than standard and they are certainly a big improvement, light seems much whiter too rather than yellowy. You can get "blue" tinted bulbs similiar to HID too but be aware than the filter used on the bulb actually gives slightly less light. Probably still better than the original bulbs though.
My FD was VERY skittish when I first got her - even in a straight line - one small bump was enough to kick her off course. Took her to Blandford tyres who checked the tracking and wheel alignment in all four corners, using some groovy lazer equipment. It was frightening how much they were out. A few tweeks later and she handles like a dream. Cost me £60. Bargain.

I have read the the yellower lights are better in foggy conditions as less of the light gets reflected back. Something to do with the wavelengths?
Must be some reason for the French to have their headlights yellow???
Just checked the oil and it was around 2 of those x\'s over the L so i am off to fill her up, which oil should i use?
I will go and get myself some new bulbs too.
The car has supposedley had a 4 wheel alignment but i think the tracking is screwed.
i always use 15/40w castrol mineral based buy it from halfords think its about £11.99 buy the oil filter too while your there,
the bulbs i bought where some bosh ones h4 £12.99 each cant remember which ones tho.
is your car fresh out of japan ? has it just been imported?

Yes - this is correct. White/Blue light is much easier on the eyes though when night driving which is one of the reasons for HID headlights now aside from the fact they provide more light and use less power than traditional bulbs)
I suppose you could always have yellower bulbs fitted for your front fogs and have white/blue for normal beam/main beam. Personally I don\'t like the look of the yellower lights no matter how good they are!
The French don\'t need a reason for anything usually :rollin
I managed to get hold of some 10w30 oil and topped it up and the light did not come on once :)
I will try and get my bulbs sorted when i have a chance as it is a mad time of year for us all, what with parties and pressies and drinking to be done.:rollin
Glad to hear about the oil light.
French, too true.;)
Whereabouts to you get your car from in Scotland? Any pics?
