Looking at relocating my battery and didnt wanna hijack the other guys thread. Im thinking about trying it myself, i have read through a few threads on here about it already and just have a few queries.
Can i use the original battery?? or do i have to buy a sealed unit?? re they expensive?? are they certain rules about having the battery in the cabin??
Im looking at buying a battery box from demon tweeks shown in the pic, and somehow bolting it into the boot then running a cable through the car under the seats, wot size cable is needed??
on demon tweeks site has:
105 amp
135 amp
175 amp
230 amp
also it has earth cable on there:
300mm and 600mm
soz i aint the best with electrics
prob best to use 0-3 gauge
deffo best to get a 150A breaker instead of a fuse. Fuses blow and must be replaced which sucks if you do something stupid at the side of the road in the middle of nowhere
Look here http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=533616&highlight=battery+relocation
that rx7 guide is really good cheers mate, do u need to move all the fuse blocks etc aswell?????
You keep the fuse blocks in the engine bay, just run a large cable to this from the battery, it sounds simple but can take time to make it all look good.
yeah i used the normal battery and one of those boxes in the boot with 160 amp cable running into the engine bay.....not saying this is the best method, but it works!

You need to keep the distance from the battery to fuse as close as possible. Just think what happens if the metalwork chaifs the wire and the full power of the battery is shorted through the cable, caaboom.
I run 2 runs of 4awg with a pair of 60 amp fuses, it was more down to cable i had from previous installs.
I have a short run of 0 gauge running from the negative side of the battery to the body. This is very overkill !

just remember to use a gromet and nothing else, do not continue the installation without a gromet in the firewall. I also think 0 gauge is overkill, id prob use 3 gauge so at least you can run it down the side of the car rarther than the middle. Also get one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=004&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=140060614062&rd=1&rd=1
wow, thats a good price for the breaker. You need at least 2 gauge if your running it in one run. 4 gauge only has a 75amp rating over 5m. The main fuse is 120amp.

hi
I notice people saying 0 gauge is over kill just wondering if using 0 gauge would cause any problems?.
I ask because when I did my batery install I used 0 gauge and I ran both - and + connections through the cabin back to engine bay using 0 gauge.
Cheers
It wont cause any problems, but is basically over the top for the job it does. It is harder to route through the car than thinner cable and is more expensive.
Right ive ordered the battery box from Demon Tweeks, ive been to APD and the only stuff they had was regular battery cable. Bought 5 metres of it, will this do the job, no idea what gauge or amp cable it is, the guy in the shop said it was standard battery cable. Also ive ordered a couple circuit breaker of ebay from the link above.
