Title: Apexi fitted - idle revs too high
Post by: michaelb on December 03, 2006, 03:18:01 PM
Hi All

I just had a Apexi FC and commander fitted and it is fantastic

http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?p=317589#post317589

I have a small problem.  I think the idle revs are too high at around 820 when the car is fully warmed up.

The ecu was fitted on a “warm engine” yesterday and this morning when I started the car from cold the revs went up to 2k and stayed there almost till the water temp was 80c

In the past when starting from cold the revs would generally stay around 1500rpm and at temperature of 70c and they very soon would go downs to I think 700 rpm

Where do I go to manually lower the idle revs can any one post a picture or explain to me where is this screw that I can adjust…

I would like to lower the revs to stay 750 pr 700 at idle. Would that be save to do on my own?

The car on my stock 16bit ecu (96 model FD) idled perfect.

Thanks in advance

Regards,
Michaelb

You can do this yourself using the commander by going in to the \'etc\' menu and then \'idle\' and lower the figure (highlight and press the down arrow).

Alternatively speak to your tuner who could talk you through it over the phone. To be honest it doesn\'t sound like its anything to worry about :)

Hi

Thanks for the info, it is very helpful.  Can you tell me at what rev should I have at idle? Is it 750?

The car driver manic with this new ecu and the little map I had of ant on here!!!

You know what’s it like, anything not quite right on your car and we worry…

I set it up Tomorrow as right now I would probably annoy the neighbours with the HKS exhaust noise (the louder the better in my books)

Regards,
Michaelb

PS If I remember you have the same car as I have, right?  RB Bathurst 96

Michael,

700 rpm is the normal idle rpm without the aircon on, 900 rpm with aircon on.

After installing the apexi you need to let it \'learn\' and it will idle up and down for a while. I believe the english instructions tell you to let it idle without any electrical load first  whilst in \'learning mode\'  so it will settle at 700 rpm. Once done you then turn on the aircon and it will begin hunting and will finally settle down to around 900 rpm (you can then turn it off).

If you do not let it complete its learning mode then it will hunt up and down whist in traffic until it finishes it cycle. From memory it takes 30 mins or so to complete.

I have a 97 RB Bathurst Type X (got red leather seats, twin oil coolers, etc). There were quite a few Bathurst models.

Is your spec similar i.e. leather?

Tariq

Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately the learning process has been already completed on Saturday but I did not install it.

Incidentaly I lowered the revs using the commander so thanks for your help.

I have no leather seats as regarding the type I need to go and have a look under the bonnet in the day light, I will let you know.  All I know is that it had 16bit ECU before I changed it to Apexi…

Where do I look for twin oil coolers ?

Michaelb

No problem.

To check if you have oil coolers take a look at the front bumper intakes (the two openings on either side of the big centre air supply). If you see what looks like mini intercoolers those will be your oil coolers. Most RB\'s only had one, type r and rs had one on either side and some special edition Bathursts.)

Look on the drivers side door sill, you will see a silver label half way up, it should tell you the model of RX-7 on there, i.e. it should list \'Bathurst\' under special edition. If it doesn\'t then its just a plain RB model.

Incidently what led you to believe yours was a Bathurst model? I remember seeing your car advertised on pistonheads, think the seller was called Tim. Is this the same car?

Cheers,
Tariq.

Hi

You are right, I did get it from Tim…I am afraid that there is 2 stickers there, one which deals with body type, paint, displacement ect and one above it
with tires but also has lots of writing in Japanese ?? Cannot see too much at night..

Any idea?  Nothing about RB type or Bathurst …people had a look at my car and due to its wide, flatter look said it was Bathurst, mind you I have 99spec front and lip and Mazda speed spoiler

The car does look a lot wider then others in comparison at Rotorstcok line up.

Michaelb

OK thanks, the 99 spec nose and rear spoiler are not standard, so they were fitted on afterwards by the previous owner, your car would not have come that way from Mazda originally.

Your car looks standard in width, being a Bathurst wouldn\'t make it different in this respect.

My guess is that its a stock RB due to the cloth seats, with a face lift front bumper added on.

Have a look behind your seat belts for a label it should also confirm the year of your car(3/4 of the way down on the rear of the belt).

From recollection they did make a Bathurst model in 1995 and in Jan 1997 (my model). The 97 model came in two colours white and black (but had a red leather interior and type x decal on the side). I think there is a post on models that may give more detail on the 95 model bathurst..I\'ll look it up.

The label on mine list the year, model - RB and under special edition states Bathurst.

Hi

Right, I got the auction slip out and it says on it RB and then the rest in japanesse after the RB - we need a jap speaking person here..

The car was imported by Brian from Rotary Imports and if I am correct he said that the car was RB Bathurst…I will have a look behind the seats aswell

It is definatly a 96 model thou...

Cool, I suspect it is an RB and not an RB Bathurst. \'Bathurst\' (name of the famous Australian Racing Circuit) is an english word and would appear on your details in English and not Japanese as there is not a substitute for it in Japanese. :2Rolleyes

I have a japanese colleague at work, take a picture and I\'ll get him to translate it for us just to be sure :)

Hi Tariq

I have e-mailed Brian Ellis from Rotary Import to get to the bottom of it since he has imported the car to the UK and RX Motors prepared the car for the UK

I have just received the confirmation that I definitely have RB Bathurst

Michaelb
