Title: Possible Turbo Problem
Post by: yogibear on December 01, 2006, 05:27:20 PM
Right just been down to the bodyshop that are going to do the respray on my FD and when the bonnet was up noticed there was some oil on the underside of the bonnet that had come out of the Blitz Bov.

The guy there reckoned its the turbos seals on the way out. What does everyone else think? Im a bit perplexed as its the first time ive driven it in 6 weeks and it was boosting perfectly and pulling like a train. Also if it is the turbos can you get rebuild kits and is rebuilding them hard to do?

Get your self a Catch tank, its posable that there is oil finding its way into the Turbo through the breathers.

Anyway if its not smoking and you have full boost etc why worrie :) it will stop your bonnet from rusting ;)

Ok fair point. It is quite common on Turbo cars.

Is it a Single or still on Twins?

Keep an eye on the exhaust on Over run, When my mates Turbo\'s started going it smoked on Over run and if you turned it off before its cooled enough after a heavy footed run.

as i say some times its got nothing to do with the Turbo and its the Breathers blowing oil into the Inlet (Hence the catch tank)

as grizzly said try a catch tank before taking any drastic measures as it could be a very simple problem! OR take it to someone who knows about engines and not body filler and paint!

i have never seen an FD that HASN\'T got an oily inlet track, thats why its coming out of the BOV, i assume that you have an aftermarket BOV. If you had a stock one it would just be dumped back in the airbox.
Dont worry about it.

Title: Smoke as well?
Post by: Waddock on December 24, 2006, 01:43:17 PM
My rex has been blowing a bit of oil through the BOV since my trip to ring. Nice shiney BOV now has traces of oil in the central hole. I thought that the hard driving had killed the turbos as they are only standard. Does you car smoke a bit from under the bonnet when you come to a stop? mine smokes for a about 30 secs to 2 mins depending on how hard I drive it, smoke comes from around the large metal pipe from the turbo to the BOV. Does this sound about right?

Think I will try a catch tank now and see how it goes....
