Get rid. On both my cars the small light in one of the rear reflectors had already been used.  The ones that show clear in your  pic.

Do a search there is a REAL good tread about converting a reverse light into a Fog.

soz im a bit stupid when it comes to electrics.  Here are a couple pics to show whats going on.  I have decided to wire in the middle brake light as rear fog light.

First pic shows the red cable coming from the button on the centre console and the black earth cable.  THese are the two cables which went to the original rear fog light on the rear bumper.

The Second pic shows the cables currently on the middle brake light.

Please can someonne explain what i need to do, could take a guess at it but dont wanna get it wrong.

I just made one of the reverse lights the fog....sprayed it clear red and stuck a red bulb in. Job done :) Basically cut the +ve wire to the reverse bulb, then wired the +ve from the existing fog light i had to the +ve of the reverse bulb...that was basically it i think.

connect the red wire to the brake light, but cut the wire, (or fit a diode) so it doesnt backfeed, and turn the brake lights on /??

I think it will be the green you connect it to, the black should be earth wire,

Anyone got the wiring diagram for making the centre brake light the fog whilst still maintaining the brake light function when the fog is off??  It\'s been mentioned on here in another thread by "BenF", but the diagram never seemed to appear??

Crap at drawing, but there u go .
You can use it on any brake light,  doesnt have to be high level one

does a fog light need 2 b a certain brightness?
Title: Fog Light
Post by: Hayward North on December 01, 2006, 11:23:23 PM
Well we do a lot of import foglight conversions at mx5city and yes it needs to be a certain brightness but most MOT testers dont know so as long as its red its ok, Foglight in the brake light is a no no, unless you just add another bulb holder to your original brakelight, it needs to work indepenently, ie, weather your foglight is on or not you need to see to lights illuminate when you press the brake peddle, also your foglight button needs to illuminate and turn on with the sidelights and be offset to the drivers side not central (most MOT testers dont know it needs to be offset) or it will fail an MOT, Best is to wire it into the drivers side revers light with an illuminated switch, Use a sideligt live for your scorce.

Dont do MOT`s meself, so no idea the legalities of it,:)

I have 5 brake lights on the rear of my rx, 4 rear, and one high level brake light,

I wired me fog light into one of the brakelights,  i switch on me sidelights and they all light up, i press the brake and they all light up, i switch on me fog light, and me side lights are on & only one lights the fog light,

So this seems fine to me :)

Anytime.  Just as a matter of interest do you just service the bolton area or do you go slightly outside, i.e. Ashton/Wigan area??

Not Strickly leagal but if ya MOT tester interperates the rules differently then all well and good, there is a lot that has been left to the discression on the tester so is down to the person i guess.

went and bought some diodes today, got a couple of them just in case, how exactly do i wire them in???? :Hammer
Title: Fog Light
Post by: Mobilemick on December 03, 2006, 04:39:31 PM
basically the diode cuts the feed going to the other brake lights,  you dont want all ur brake lights coming on, when you turn ur fog switch on , it could be a red wire not sure,

Cut that wire, then wire the fog switch wire to the wire coming out of the light.(switch on your fog switch and your fog light(high level brake light) will come on,  but no other brake lights.

Press your brake and the high level one wont come on.

then the wire that goes back to the brake pedal, put one end of the diode on there, and then connect the red wire, and the fog switch wire to the other end of the diode,

I drew u a piccy  lol
