Title: Fitting uprated sound system
Post by: alban1973 on November 29, 2006, 08:21:22 AM
Decided I would fit an unrated sound system to my little Elford It has an 1982 style uprated one with amps and uprated speakers at the moment.. but they have really cometo the end of their lives

Dont really know anything about proper setups so thought I would take some advice.  what a mine field, I think I had been told  different things by about 20 people, max power, peak power ,RMS,  anyway yesterday spoke to a good friend who has been messing around for years with proper gear and instalations ,  so I have now made a decision on what I am going to do.  I have fitted two amps to the rear of the back seat, which fit very niclely and descretly, I am going to get 2 quality made  5.25 speakers for the front to replace the originals with seperate tweeters and crossovers.  and in the rear 1x 8" subwoofer which I am hoping will fit where the original 6.5" ones fit, then I dont have to mess the cars interior up and will hopefully get a good quality sound that  I am after rather than loudness.... I will post some photos later......

Ooooh looking good. You can get 6.25in speakers in the middle of the car too if you want to improve the sound, but you need to do some trimming to the metal work. The owner of the black FB had done a little bit and i squeezed 5.25 up front and the 6.25 in the middle all running off the head unit ! One thing i have noticed is how do you find the quality of the ariel in the FB, mines all crackly. Are they easy to get hold off ?

Well,,  have you tried listening to Rachmaninov through a standard system..   and then through a qualtity system,  you will see why it is necessary, and if a job is worth doing it is worth doing right...  Not into all this boom boom business really, just good qulality all round sound.

I know what you mean, sounds crazy but i had a euphoric chillout album that was very good at showing the weakness in systems. I\'ve won a couple of sound off for sound quality and one thing that can make a huge difference is soundproofing. Some good dyna mat and wadding does wonders.

oh, just noticed have you got your power cable and phono cables running down the same side ?? If so swap them over to the other side, you can get alot of interference off the power cables.
