Title: MOT\'s without a CAT?
Post by: PERKINT on December 08, 2003, 09:21:33 PM
Hi folks,

Question - if I whip the cats off, will I have problems getting the car through the MOT in future? Car is a late \'93 Type R.

Just playing with ideas. Be nice to have an exhaust made that allows it to breath properly, but I\'m not a fan of real big exit pipes (the back box that\'s on has about a 5" one). Seeing as P D Gough are less than a mile from my house, I might see what sort of money they\'d charge, and get them to do a turbo back job and take the cat out completely.

Of course, if this means having to put a standard one back one each year, it may be more effort than it\'s worth! Unless some nice rotary specialist would do this for me for a nominal fee ;)

Any help on this would be appreciated :)

Tim

not sure about the MOT thing in relation to how stringent yer emissions will be but i\'d guess you\'d fail without CAT :(
More importantly do you have an ECU upgrade if yer thinking about ditching CTA? From what i\'ve read if yer doing this you need a ECU mod to ensure it dont run lean & no point tempting fate on the rebuild front init (http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0903/sprachlos/speechless-smiley-038.gif)

It\'s August 1996 for when cars from outside teh EU have to have cats.

The test should not include a visual so the lack of a cat should not be noticed.

Also you need to tell the MOT station that it is a grey import car and thus should not be tested as the UK model.

If you\'re near Reading you might want to check out Thames Valley MOT for your test.  The owner is also a FD3 owner.

Cheers, gents.

Will probably rip the existing exhaust off some time in thhfuture, but it\'s a bit of a mute point at the mo - the guy who imported it for me took it to WGT yesterday as it\'s not running right.

Rotor tips gone, engine rebuild :-0

Still, I get an R32 Skyline (auto) to play with whilst it\'s done :)
