Title: Who Wants one of these??
Post by: Jono FD3 on November 27, 2006, 08:43:58 PM
Right then guys...... I\'m going to make a new carryer for the Power FC commander unit, as I think the solutions up until now have been POOOO because of visible wires & it hanging off the dash!!! This is a basic image of what I\'ve got in my head so if you could let me know if you would be interested in one, just so I know how many I would be needing to make!!!!

Price would be around the £35 mark deliverd!!!

Basicaly the unit is dropped in to a recess so all you can see is the screen sticking out of the dash, & if you want to alter any settings you just lift the commander out, tap the buttons then drop it back in to the holder!! Doing it this way you dont see any wires hanging around which I hate with a passion!!!

The unit will be turned to face the driver, rather than sitting the way it is in the pic, just working with photos I couldnt manipulate the immage correctly!!!!

They are going to be made in GRP and would need a spray with a can of paint so that it matches your dash......... or car colour!!

Add your names if your interested in one:

Cheers
Jono

Similar sort of idea to what I\'ve thought about...i.e. putting it where your gauges are in that pic :)

The vent will still be opperational, althought the air direction will not be moovable!!! I\'m going to mould it as a louver, as the whole centre vent will be replaced with GRP moulding!! This vent only ever blows cold air so it isn\'t going to affect the commander in any way!!

AAAhhhhhhh ;) it\'ll probably take me about 2 weeks to make the moulds, then it should be all systems go, you can have the first one Michael as you were one of the first to commit on my last thread about this.

(If you can wait that long that it???)

No Problem.  Thanks for that.  Cannot wait....

Please supply some simple instructions to do with fitment or pass on your fitment experience since you will be really the one who will try the prototype…

I await the product.  I think that you actually got something that will be in great demand…..the commander just “stuck” to the dashboard looks so odd…

Michaelb

Post from newbie...but eh?  what exactly is everyone getting excited about here?

Is it the square thingy and if it is how on earth are you going to get that nicely situated into the vent thing.

The other question which everyone seems to know about is...what exactly does it do?
Title: Who Wants one of these??
Post by: michaelb on December 01, 2006, 04:44:00 PM
copied this from a web site selling Power FC, have a read...

The Power FC is a stand alone, total engine management system. The Power FC replaces the factory ECU and controls all engine parameters. Installation is simply replacing the factory ECU (Some minor wiring alterations may be required on some vehicles). Using the factory wiring loom, all standard accessories like the air conditioning will continue to function. By changing various parameters and data (from multiple point fuel and ignition control to variable valve timing engagement and boost settings), the Power FC will adapt to the vehicles specific characteristics. The Power FC also comes preprogrammed with several base maps. (Currently with Japan Domestic Market Vehicle Maps. Minor initial tuning may be required). This makes the initial tuning process much quicker. As with all other fuel controllers, the POWER FC should be tuned on a dynomometer by a trained professional. A high grade air/ fuel ratio monitor is also recommended during tuning to ensure best results.

Monitor Mode:
The Commander can display up to 10 parameters of data in real time. Monitor Mode can display:
Engine RPM
Ignition Timing
Vehicle Speed
Air Flow Voltage (Pressure Sensor Voltage)
Injector Duty Cycle
Boost
Knocking Level
Battery Voltage
Intake Air Temp
Water Temp

In addition, there are 4 display patterns allowing 1-8 parameters to be shown on screen at once. The data displays in numerical real time values with the option of a real time 10 second graph display. Peak Hold values and Display Hold functions only require the touch of a button. The Map Trace Mode allows Ghost Map Tracing of the Fuel Correction and Ignition Timing maps. This allows the user to visually see what point of the map is being used in real time. The Ghost Map Trace function leaves markers on the used portions of the map for easy reference.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Setting Mode:
Allows full access to the 20x20 ignition timing and fuel correction maps. The user can adjust any portion of this map in 5x5 sections. Air flow correction values can be entered for vehicles upgrading air flow meters. Injector pulse correction menu is used when upgrading injectors on the engine. The Acceleration Enrichment Correction function improves response under hard and sudden acceleration. The Cranking Fuel Injection menu corrects the amount of fuel when the engine is being cranked, or when the water temperature is cold. A separate Water Temp menu allows fuel correction according to water temperature. The RPM menu allows rev limiter settings and idle RPM levels. Access menus also vary according to specialty engines.

Rotary engine Power FC\'s accommodate leading and trailing ignition maps. Honda engines Power FC\'s allow for VTEC control. Complete boost control is possible by using the optional Boost Control Kit.

I hope this helps

Regards,
Michaelb

Thanks Michael, much appreciated...to be honest an awful lot of that has gone straight over my head and unless you are racing I can\'t understand why anyone would change power or airflow settings.

However, the monitor modes look like they could really be useful...I\'m obviously talking about -

Engine RPM
Vehicle Speed
Battery Voltage
Intake Air Temp
Water Temp

Now those I can understand...the others...well I guess I had better do a bit more reading :)
Title: Who Wants one of these??

I am sure the expert here can put it in a better way for you but fundamentally when you start modifying the car (engine) you have to alter / up fuel and other parametrics.

The standard stock ECU does not allow you to do that.  After market ECU like the one we are talking about allows a tuner to map the car according to the modifications.

Indecently the stock temperature gauge is useless, by the time the needle goes up it is probably too late and you have damaged the engine â€" big bill.

You can monitor water temp on the commander.

I also have after market gauges installed and one of them is water temp (in case the engine is over heating)

Regards,
Michaelb

I\'m hopeing to get the first one out of the mould early part of next week, when I shall do a fitment test in my FD, logging each fitment step with pics & explenations of what to do!!

Fingers crossed this project will work out well, & look the muts nuts when finished!!!

I\'m going to try and get some dark grey or black gell, as this will save any painting (Unless you want to colour code it to the car) so it will jut be the fitting you will have to do!!

She is going to be finished tonight Then I\'m going to mould the first one & give a full lowdown on how to install the unit, so hopefuly by the weekend you should have a fitment guide & a peek at the finished article!!

Appologies for the second delay!!

Yea mate: Smallest text you can use is 64mm on an import with the Std UK being 74mm up to 84mm!!

The plate is black text on a reflective white backing so conforms to the UK regs. basicaly all I need is your reg and if you would like your log in name at the bottom of the plate!!

£12 deliverd
