Title: what a great day.
Post by: D1 WTF on November 26, 2006, 01:46:16 AM
well a bit of background first
got my engine rebuilt by WGT, went single turbo at the same time, V-mount etc.  big bill!

did a 1000miles running in almost on the dot, when i arrived there to get it mapped.  pip felt the engine hadnt loosened up propperly (and he didnt want to rev if past 6500rpm as it felt too tight) so he left a rev limit of 6500rpm.

then after about a further 1800 miles the clutch line split about 2 days before i was going back up for a remap (full revs).  so i decided to get the AA to take it stright up.

few days later went up to collect and watch it being mapped.  on the way back home the exhaust starting blowing.  it also started to blow from the turbo some where, making the hotside get red hot within 20 mins of driving, even when completely off boost and keeping below 3000rpm.

local exhaust specialist couldnt find problem so i decided it be safer to just get it taken back up to WGT (thank you AA again).  appartently the turbo and the manifold had come a little loose.

today starts

so car was ready and tyson007 (good friend off the forum) offered to take me up today, after changing some of his pupils lessons around to make the afternoon free (what a legend cheers mate).  so he picked me up from st.albans just after midday, and we cruised up to WGT (157miles).
3 hours later we arrived, were there for a short while and then had to leave as i was working at 7pm so needed to get home.
car no longer sounded like a tractor, so filled up with some v-power at the shell near WGT and got on the M6.  about 15-20 miles down the road, went to overtake tyson007:3gears-rh  and then it happened, engine went POP.
was on boost at about 6500rpm and suddenly it just sort of spluttered as if it was out of fuel and lost power a bit, i knew something wasnt right.
then tyson007 started flashing me and indercating to me to go to the hard shoulder.  i though for a minute i was on fire or something.  as i slowed i could tell it was practically on single rotor.
as we both got out he said "something has just gone mate", ("your car occasionally in the past has spit out the odd flame"), but apparently there was suddenly a puff of a lot of smoke (so much that he said he couldnt see for a second, lol).

we popped the bonnet and the turbo was glowing red hot, and it was running like a tractor.  crawled 2-3 mile down the road to a services (called pip to let him know), and rung the AA, got them to take me back to WGT, pip came back from home to put my car in the workshop.  when he started it he said he thinks it is prob a chipped apex seal, from the way it happened we think it is probably something to do with the fueling of some discription, duff injector- or fuel pump.

oh yer my engine had done 3200miles since rebuild
either way it should be under warantee, hopefully for WGT it is the fuel pump as then they (walbro i think) can foot the bill.

so tyson007 waited with me and brought me back home as well, cheers mate, i owe you BIG stylie!!!  what a waste of 9-10 hours, and £100+ for petrol and a sandwich.

ow well havent had the best time with this car since collecting from rebuild (6 weeks ago).  pip is the man (it is in the best hands it could be in) and i am sure he will make her live again, just hope it is asap as i am again carless.  so never really drove her when she had full revs/power and running right.   and now i got to run it in again :2Mad

oh and to top it of as i was late for work( i obviously called them and et them know), they had the proper hump and they have given me no shift next week etc.......hopefully that is just for next week and not indefinately.

pete you need to change your avatar pic, that little pic dosent do it any justice.  it looks well nice in the flesh.  and an intresting alteration in the engine bay aswell.
WGT open until about 1-2pm or something like that on sat.

Bit of an arse the biggest annoyance for me as it is my only car so now again i am carless, well put it this way, i aint been offered a courtesy car.

ow well............"CANT WAIT to have to run it in again etc" (could you sence the sarcasm)

yer, it might be nothing to do with that though.  i am wondering if it has anything to do with my turbo as i the reason i was collecting it from WGT was that they were fixing a problem with it.  (blowing, causeing it to overheat something crazy)
either way they supplied everthing engine, turbo, fuel pump, injectors, fly, clutch, IC etc
although i was wondering if warantys were actually worth anything or whether people will try and get round them in anyway they can.  one of pips first questions was did we supply/fit the fuel pump...........

either way it will be paid for somewhere along the lines and not by me!
Title: what a great day.
Post by: gmogle on November 26, 2006, 12:37:43 PM
Yeah I agree mate, if you are paying a large bill you\'d expect them to foot the bill for a lot of the issues that are related to stuff that they\'ve put in, thats what a warranty is for.

Pips a decent chap, I dont think he would try and get out of it.

yer he has built a fuel rail on top of the plenum, with two extra injectors.  if they where on the otherside of the throttle butterfly etc on the greedy elbow.  it would be loosing some fuel etc.

looks intresting, lol.  my friend was very intrested in your SMIC.

i like the bonnet with gold mesh to.
p.s is you spoiler genunine?

Thats where he normally fits them mate, everyone has got there own ideas/methods of modification, some will agree and some wont.Thats how Pip done mine when he fitted my extra inj\'s and AIC back in 2001.

thanks nice to know where injectors are, glad i had a long go at polishing plenum before they were fitted not quite finished but will do.
which smic trust or xspower ?
love the bonnets gold mesh myself (wife did for me whilst i was at work )underside to do yet where panel was cut out to fit IC hopefully trust will be a better fit and allow me to mesh the tunnel ,gets more air into the engine bay at least.
as far as i know genuine mazdaspeed 99 spoiler had to replace one of the bolt covers as had fallen off - 2 cost me around £60 come in pairs.
cant wait for wednesday to pick car up :)

it wasnt an xspower one so it must have been the trust.  (actually i think the hardpipes did say trust?)

i think pip is trying to put together a kit for the UIM injector mount,  (so that it will not always be a one off) that is why he said it was a prototype, cause he got the bits made etc
