Title: Rads for V-Mount??
Post by: Jono FD3 on November 24, 2006, 10:41:03 AM
Just a quick one realy, just to see how many people have used a stock rad for a V-mount set up???? Obviously I would have to make the water pipes to fit, but has anyone done this, or is it OK to do this????

Thanks
Jono

I\'m confused????
uprated rad wont cost much more that a free one????
I\'m on a tight budget.... already got the IC, but I would have thought that as long as I get enough air flow throught the rad it would have no choice but to cool... pluss the air con rad wont be in the way, because it\'s getting bind??!!

it isnt quite that simple as ducting will play a big part in air travel otherwise a lot of air will flow round the rad not through

Sorry...... forgot to say thet the air will have no other way past!!!
On the drivers side i\'m going to have a custom cold air induction kit and the passenger side will be fully blocked off. So basicaly the air can only flow through the Rad, IC, or down the induction kit!! also going to put a splitter between the IC & Rad so that one doesn\'t starve the other of air flow!!

Think you would have a problem mounting a stock rad in the v mount position ( mounts leaning towards the car instead of away like stock ) due to the piping

Good luck though no harm in trying

Using the Std radiator shape will not work. It fits, but the pipework is very fiddly and has no effective cooling. Water temps will rise consideribly, and all the ducting that can be fitted in the front will not bring temps down to normal.
I have done this on an FD, so know first hand. I would suggest, as funds are scarce, to \'aquire\' an FC aftermarket radiator which works perfectly after a couple of pipework adjustments.

Cheers,
John
