Title: Fitting poly engine mounts.
Post by: stylus350 on November 20, 2006, 11:38:50 PM
Does anyone have any info on fitting these? Had a quick look and it does not look quite as simple as I thought it would:o . Probably become clearer as I take things off but instructions would just mean less messing and be much appreciated:)

soz to jump in on your thread matey but i was thinking about going for some of these, would be good to have a sticky thread if a nice kind person would like to create one hehe

What advantages do you get from getting these engine mounts?

Reduced engine movement to which should put less strain on the transmission and keep everything in line meaning sweeter gear changes and less \'bouncing\'(cant think of a better word right now) when on and off the throttle. The trade off is some vibration throught the car. I dont know how much vibration though and am interested to find out.

I will give a valuation as soon as they are fitted in case anyone else is thinking of getting some.

Technical stickies are always a good idea!

I think with the standard mounts you may find it difficult to attach the poly mounts. The reason for this is that the passenger side mount is bonded to the metal leg that the engine sits on - It\'s difficult (But not impossible) to modify it so that you can add your mount however - this is what I have managed to do with a standard rubber mount.

I thought it looked bonded on! Did you manage to cut the old one off?

What year are yours Nik? My 95 ones came off no problem, both sides.

Interesting - I have a 92. You\'re lucky then, as i believe most are bonded (Only on the passenger side though) It\'s a very odd way of doing things. I cut all the rubber off mine, then drilled a hole through the centre - it held up so far.

I don\'t suppose the bonded one is silver is it? I read that Mazda changed the silver aluminium one to a black steel one to stop sump leaks. Maybe yours is an ali one? Mine are both black, the rubber "puck" just bolts on and the steel legs are pretty much identical on both sides (the drivers side has threaded holes for the heat shield). They should be interchangeable if you can find a second hand steel one.

Yeah - one is ally, and the other is cast iron i believe. I know they\'re interchangable, but they are almost impossible to get hold of second hand, as they are so expensive new.
