Title: Need some help with research - looking to buy
Post by: gordyb on December 06, 2003, 09:49:27 AM
Hi all, newbie here - 1st post.

I\'m in the middle of selling my fun/track car and am thinking of an RX as replacement. I don\'t know much about them at all other than the stories I\'ve heard about rotary engine rebuilds. I really fancy another Mazda though as my last 3 cars have been MX-5\'s.

Anyway, what I\'m looking for is RWD, 4 seats (rears only have to take small kids so headroom/legroom doesn\'t matter. It has to be fun and drive/handle well. I also want something that I can take on track about once a month without it breaking, and I want to be able to swap tyre/setup and make it tail happy for drifting without a £100 allignment change i.e. neutral grippy track handling and oversteer biased drift handling with a swap of rear tyres, ARB settings or shock settings .

I have a budget of about 4 grand but may only spend one or two - depends on what I find. Car will also have to behave in traffic on stop start journeys to work maybe once a week. MPG isn\'t that important if the car meets the rest of the stuff above, though I\'d like it in the 20\'s at least.

So, where can I find model specific info for the series 1 and series 2 cars? Where can I find some for sale to have a look in them and maybe a drive to help decide - Berks area. Car doesn\'t have to be convertible this time. Doesn\'t have to be fast either - must handle though and be able to grip or drift depending on what event I\'m at. Don\'t mind upgrading suspension/brakes but don\'t want to mess with the engine other than changing the oil. If I have a choice of 150 bhp non turbo or 250 bhp turbo I\'d probably go for the non turbo if the handling was there.

Any recommendations on what model would suit? Some URL\'s for researching common faults would be great.

Cheers

Gordon
