Yes I\'ve done it. Are you a member of FDUK????? As Max has some very cool vids posted in a thread of him doing laps at the Ring viewed through a cam in his rad grill, fantastic viewing. Be warned it\'s not for the total novice.:2eek

One point that isnt silly

If it is wet....dont go out!

If you damage the armco....and I learnt this by glancing it with a grp bumper they will make you pay for it! my damage was £420  They rip you off big style as my bumper was still intact!!

Stay with Bren at Sliders he can tell you everything you need to know, the other biggie is use your mirrors.....look behind more than you look in front.  If something is behind you let him by when it is safe to do so.  Even if it is a Mrk I golf.....let it by!  Hes behind you for a reason as hes faster than you, and he will come by when he wants and wont care either!!!  Also its against the law to overtake on the right....so even if someone pulls over to the left stay behind.

Take it easy and play safe....oh and dont try and beat Clarksons 10 minute gamble  he had a lot more tuition around the place than he made out.  If you beat it then kewl :D

yer you have a point there there is some really quick mk2 golfs with full roll cages, they all live locally in the nearby towns/villages they hammered passed my dads M5 and we were fairly shifting (well we thought wew were till they went passed), but they just live on it at weekend etc, they have prob been round it more times that i have had hot dinners or what ever the saying is.  and also the ring taxis are fairly quick along with the occasional corvet etc

Urm...... No!

Maybe down the pub...but Ive been there for the past 8 years and I never met anyone who can do it on a bike in a sub 7...in fact the record holder Helmut Dahn...hasnt ever done it that quick!

I stopped going there on a bike quite a few years ago, having watched some big falls, some of which didn\'t walk away.  Its a great circuit but no protection and you could be on your own for quite a while before a roaming marshall gets to you.

It felt so good to be out there in the Rex with a roll cage.....invincible!!

Sorry to sound a bit doom and gloom....but these mags, tv programs and mates paint such an amazing picture of the place.....and sometimes it doesnt quite go to plan!

tis true, its like the fact that there is a pretty low death toll there.  but go to the county next to it (where the hospital is) and that is another story.

Dangerous but extremely good fun.

Been twice now and going to go every year from now on!

It was a 1200 mile round trip from Milton Keynes including about 12 laps.

Also remeber that it is a oneway road, not a race track. So you are expected to keep right rather than use the racing line. This also means people behind you will not wait (like a UK trackday) for you to alow them past. They will go past when they want - braking, corner, grass(!). A number of brits come a cropper as they expect UK trackday rules and just turn in on the car behind.

you will pay if you cause problems - armco, track closure, and hope you never spill oil on the track.

People do die, I was there last month and two bikers died. One track closure started at 2:00pm and lasted until the following day.

There is plenty of info on this site //www.justgofaster.com (the Wiki)The ring guide is mostly written by my friend sean who lives nearby the ring and pops over at least once a week for laps (he has done hundreds), and he is very familair with the ups and downs of the place. There are also a few in-car lap vids.

It is awesome but do not believe the pub talk as Atomic warns. To get around on a public day under 10 minutes is doing well. Under 9:00 is really going some.

You can go via a company that offers a package deal.

I am looking at doing the nurbergring 700, looks good value and pretty good fun.

Hope this helps

I spent 5 years taking people to ring on bikes and teaching them the circuit.  I brought out with me instructors galore, and gave them everything they could need.

I don\'t do it anymore, as watching paramedics give up on someone at the side of the track, made me think if this was one of my customers how would I explain it to their relatives.

But.....I would recommend you go with a reputable company.  They can explain all of the pitfalls, and take you out.  They can be an extra set of eyes, and stop you from getting red mist when you should be thinking of pretty flowers!

Plus they are a source of knowledge when things go wrong...Ring Racing for instance is a place you can get tyres changed, engines fixed, brakes fixed etc.

We probably went overboard, but thankfully only one accident.....and he took me off!

RMA offer one of the best days.  You can also combine it with SPA....always good for a giggle!!!
