Title: I can\'t keep it still
Post by: kbareham on November 12, 2006, 06:41:52 PM
The engine that is :-)

I\'m doing the single turbo thing, and I\'m a little tight for clearance around the turbo, wastegate and some intercooler piping. I want to restrict the engine movement much more than the slightly sloppy original engine mounts do. Does any one have any feedback on aftermarket engine mounts and dampers etc? I\'ve heard bad things about solid engine mounts breaking the rear plate. Also, although it seems a common mod, I\'m slightly wary of attaching a damper to the inlet manifold for fear of breaking the manifold studs on a hard launch.
I am fully aware that it will cause more vibration into the car of course!

there was a group buy on poly engine mounts that sounded good bud, have never fitted/used them so cant comment really.. would you not be better trying to re-route so theres more space for engine movement?

I have some experiance with Engine mounts as i went through alot of them on my Turbo 2 :yes

i would say unless you are not worried about extra Vibration through the car go for Stock Mounts and fit a Good quality engine Damper. This is how my car is set up now after using every thing from Stockers to Solid alloy mounts but i supose it all depends on what you want to do with it? If its going on a Track once a month then Soild mounts will be fine but as an Every day driver (like mine) you\'d be best of with the Damper

Are you sure the excessive vibration isn\'t becsue one of the mounts is already broken?

It shouldn\'t move too much if they\'re working properly and themounts are pretty fragile - I\'m on my third in a little over 3 years!!!

Just ordered some poly mounts so I\'ll see what happens. I might add the damper too just to be safe. I just don\'t want to crack the manifold by having the turbo hit the side of the engine bay. As it is, the turbine housing is very close to the LIM, so there is little scope for moving the turbo.

My fault for putting a turbo that size on it :-)

My turbo was touching the engine wall. In the end a peice of the wall was cut away to give more clearance.

I have just fitted some polly engine mounts to my new engine its not running yet so im not shore what they are like, but they are solid and I cant see my engine is going to flex much with them on.
