Title: Tall chap + FD?
Post by: Lurch on November 03, 2006, 09:35:12 AM
I hope this is in the right section, as its my first post. Ive agreed with myself that I will own an FD in the next year, But having been in a few at this stage, ive realised im too tall for them, as my knee is wedged against the steering wheel when the handbrake is down. Is it possible / difficult to move the drivers side seat rails back 2-3 inches? Has anybody over 6\'5" had much experience with these cars?
Any help much appreciated.
Simon.

i\'m 6\'2" and at first i found it difficult. you can move the seat rails on the seat to give some extra leg room. i believe there are another couple of inches in the R2 with bins instead of rear seats too.  the driving position is very different to a normal car-i have the seat back at much more of an angle. i have also fitted a large steering wheel spacer to bring the wheel towards me and free up some space for my knees. now i have a perfect driving position!

good luck...

I\'m 6\'5\' and I\'m ok in one if you look on FDUK I did a whole write up with pics of how to modify the seat rails to go back another 2 inches.

And a very good write up it is to allstaruk, did mine and works a treat, life will be a lot easier when you do this mod.

Cheers

Get a smaller diameter steering wheel and get the runners modified on the seat and you should be ok :D
I\'m 6\'4\'\' and just the steering wheel bit helped me enough.

Having trouble finding that, just went through your entire posts list! Could only find your thread about rails for sale.

Ah you\'ve not become verifyed yet then, I take it you\'ve registered on the forum you just need to PM a mod and get them to give you full access.

I\'ll try copying it over now though.

Get some nice recliners and place the runners back.

This way, I have seen someone 7\' tall fit in to a RX-7 fairly comfortably.

Welcome to the club btw. :)

It takes a fair bit of time but you can raise the steering column which gives you masses more space.
