I wasn\'t sure if it should be in this topic or technical but anyway. Despite I know a few stuff about RX\'s I don\'t think I know enough yet. Just wanted to know from more experienced rotary drivers/owners. What are the most important things to look out for when buying a second hand RX and what would I expect to replace on a more regular basis i.e consumables such as brake pads. Engine rebuilds last on average how long? Average pricing?. What\'s an average daily user\'s yearly maintenance costs?. So I know what\'s best for the car. I like keeping everything in top condition when owning a car so don\'t want to miss anything out. Thanks all.
check around the forum as all of these questions will be answered and there is loads on useful info on here. There are a couple of threads about buying an RX
where in london are you based?
best advice is dont buy one unless u are minted as at some point it will bite u in the arse

SE London. As for money wise..Well since I already fully tuned out 2 cars before the RX. Im no stranger to high maintenance costs.

thats good, the rex will be your most expensive though :Thumbsup!

Yeah had a feeling it would be. I been known to spend too much on my cars anyhow. I treated my other 2 like babies. Polishing, checking up on it\'s engine vitals everyday o.0...the missus always have a nag at me every so often for paying too much attention on my car than her. Oops :D
:Typing :Talking1 Ok, as been said they are not cheap machines to run. If you do buy one, it\'s by far best to have another daily ride. More so in the winter, cos load and loads die during that time of the year. Drop like flys!!! I recon they are one of the worst cars in the World, in wet or slippery conditions. It will go (AWAY from you just like that).
Most second hand RX\'s ( not all) but most will need a rebuild in the not too distant future! Unless you buy a nice newish one with about 5 or 10K on the clock with full serevice history. Or it has had a very recent engine rebuild buy a good reputable company ( WGT for me are about the best) Not the cheapest but, 99.999 % of the time you will not get problems if you listen to Pip or Dave. Pip is about the best you can get, almost all the others even the good engineers out there, will phone him when they are stuck!
Good points are its about the best looking jap storts car out there! ( the only true one) They do not rust ( well I have not seen one anyway). Still a very quick car even in standard form. Great road holding and handling in the (DRY)
Service at least every 3000 miles, if your a reasonable mechanic service work is not too bad to do yourself. I recon they are funny cars, in that, almost everything has to be spot on for them to run. ALmost the smalest thing out of sych can render them dead, and often dead means dead. Very easy to blow up, or destory the engine. ANd the odd thing about it is, you won\'t even know you have done it, going by the sound. It will often run a little, but sounds like a missfire. You will have almost no power, Very hard to start, if it starts, is good sign the engines shot! The Rex should start very easy. And when it does start ( from cold) let the old girl slowly warm up don\'t 6000rpm it cos they don\'t like it. Also, they do not like being started up from cold, run for 30seconds and stopped again. Good chance it won\'t start afterwards, flooding,is the problem.
They also like petrol, good quality petrol, don\'t expect 35 round the town and 40 on a run, unless it\'s on a tow truck! cos aint going to happen.
Pricing! all over the place, 3K should get you a pile of crap gen3 with a shoppng list of problems. DOn\'t go there!
5 to 8K should get you a reasonble car in reasonable condition, not the best but tidy. 10 to 20k what ever upward (K) silly money, will get you something very special something some has loved and spent 1000\'s and 1000s on, to make a one off. Problem is you probably won\'t find one like that as they will not want to sell it! These are prices for the older versions, of course you will pay very good money 10 -13k even more for very nice very late one.
Well the above is what I recon anyway! good luck, get the best one you can,
if you don\'t you will probably end up sending the money anyway!

Cool cheers mate. Very detailed explanation! *thumbs up. I guess I gotta start looking out for decent one\'s and shortlist them :D

lol, i get asked that every week. "what do you love more, me or your car"
i answer "my car" every time...............................then say only joking (puppy dog eyes etc)
my advice....if its had a rebuild; Check the spec of the rebuild. demand a receipt. If there isnt one walk away or budget 3200 into the cost of the car.
If i could do it all again, id buy a car with a blown engine and get the engine rebuilt to my own spec (of new housings, seals, bearings and good plates).
Im replacing the rotor berings and 1 stationary ger bearing (the other bearing has been replaced very very recently) while the eneinges out..its only about 60 quid for the parts and ive got someone who will press the bearings in for next to nothing and do a good job of it.

Take a look at mine it\'s in the MRC for sale section HERE (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27499)

Happy hunting
Get the very best low mileage example you can afford and save yourself the cost of an engine rebuild and other things going wrong. We supply only the best genuine examples hand picked by ourselves. Generally the examples we supply are of 35,000 genuine miles, or less.
Here\'s a mint late 1996 example with only 28,000 miles, currently available (Latest year currently possible to import to UK), now arrived and ready to register from next week! Viewing is strongly recommended if you want top quality & condition.

There\'s another RE-Amemiya body kitted example coming shortly (1993 model) at under £8,000 with very low mileage too.
See our website for more details.
Thanks
Miguel.
Another way to get a "guaranteed" good engine would be to go a check if the rotary specialist of your choice has a car cluttering up the workshop that\'s in need of a rebuild. Several of them do occasionally rebuild cars to resell. Actually that\'s what I\'m currently looking to do...

That one\'s not on your website yet, is it?
Is that price including shipping & registration or is that just FOB Japan?
That\'s OTR ;)
It\'s not on our website yet - as it\'s new stock. It won\'t be for another week or so.... Very nice example with some decent mods, full RE-Amemiya kit and Work Meister S2 alloys.
Coming soon!
Miguel.

Damn me. With such a fine example. I have to take a look at the specs and info. I\'ll keep that shortlisted for sure!:Thumbs-up
