When I start the car from cold the radio seems to loose its permenant feed as the settings all reset , I\'ve got an idea what the problem is but would like some feedback
Firstly my battery is now in the boot and I\'m wondering if the draw on the battery when starting the car from cold as dropping the voltage down enough to effedtivley loose the feed to the radio , on the commander the battery voltage when starting goes below 10V , its not draining the battery because when she kept flooding once I stopped cranking the voltage was back up to 12v
Possible fixes I\'ve come up with so far are - I\'m fitting a second batteryat some point with a volts switched split charge relay to run the alarm ( car sometimes sits for 2 weeks and this drains the battery too much to start the car ) so I was thinking of running a new feed to the radio aswell as the alarm , the second battery will not be used to start the engine as the split charge relay will only operate once it sees about 14v i.e. alternater charging batt
Option 2 is a short term fix untill I get second batt and thats to run a new feed to the radio from the car starting batt , I was thing this would work because I guessing its the voltage drop of the long cable run thats causing the problem
Option 3 is to just run another 4 gauge cable from boot to engine bay and this should solve the volt drop , thing is this is alot pricier than running a 1.5mm cable and I\'ll be running the new feeds for the alarm when I fit the second batt ( need to check but I think the alarm might be feed from the radio feed )
if you mean when you start the car up all of your settings have gone, and the radio reverts back to the standard preset then its a very simple fix.
all you need to do is swap the red possative and the yell ignition wires around. most headunits have bullit connections allowing for the easy swap
i had to do it on my jvc unit
I think it only does it when I start the car , haven\'t bothered doing anything about it yet as 1 I\'m lazy and 2 it doesn\'t loose the presets
I\'ve had a look at the manual and I think it is the voltage droping thats doing it , I\'ll get round to having a play one of these days , probably wait till I do the other electrical jobs like returning the ignition wiring to stock , rewiring the fuel pump and running a new feed for the alarm ready for the second batt
if it does it on every restart of the ignition then its a very simple fix as above, just swap the yellow and red connections .... so red meets yellow and yellow meets red !
Yeah I know what you mean about swapping the IGN and ACC feeds , used to work fine untill I moved the batt , pretty sure its the voltage dropping as it doesn\'t do it when you turn the ignition on and off just when you crank the engine
I\'m going to just throw a cable through the car to check it works before I route it properly
ah fair enough, something not as simple then !
I\'m going to check it all the same but I\'m pretty sure its right , cheers for the input though
I\'d also verify the exact voltages you\'re seeing - battery voltage should be higher than 12V if you\'re not cranking the engine - I\'d expect around 13V.
Does sound like it is losing volts when cranking, this wil cause your flooding problem as well m8. Does it turn over slower now, or take longer to crank before starting,
If you are leaving the original battery under the bonnet, just stick a live straight to the starter, will crank faster, and not drop volts :)

I still haven\'t checked it out but I\'m almost certain its that cranking is causing the voltage to drop below the radios spec , definatley doesn\'t do it every time , if the cars only been sat for a few hours its fine its only when I start the car her after she\'s been sat for a while
Does crank slower than before but starts no problem now , she hasn\'t flooded since I put the 7\'s in , I even know how many volts I need to start her aswell now as one day when I was going out I noticed the batt was down to 11v ( she\'d been sat for a week or so ) turn over was really slow and I thought she was just going to flood but then she just fired up :D

That sounds either like your battery is going south and losing the charge all by itself, or the alarm or similar is sucking the battery dry.
