If the engine has to come out when the car is at the builders in 2 weeks i was thinking of getting some of THIS (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Performance-Exhaust-Heat-Wrap-Thermo-Tec-2-x-15_W0QQitemZ130039167415QQihZ003QQcategoryZ38786QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) or THIS (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Heat-Wrap-Exhaust-Manifold-Header-2-x15-5-Colours_W0QQitemZ290041082025QQihZ019QQcategoryZ38786QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) Maybe 2 or 3 rolls would do it or would i need more?
Does it actually work though...i know a few people have it on their motas but never had before & after. From what i understand it will reduce under bonnet temps and keep the zorst nice and hot on the inside rather than the outside (Good for :flamed :Giggle )
Is their a gain in power at all...??
Does it run smoother at all...??
& which of the two should i buy...??
I\'ve just wrapped my new hks downpipe in that thermotec graphite wrap stuff. Couldn\'t do the rest of the exhaust though because it\'s all stainless steel.
To be honest I can\'t image it keeping that much heat out of the engine bay etc.
There prob won\'t be a noticable power gain but it will help to keep the bay cooler, I\'l lookin at wraping my downpipe before I fit it, I\'d prob go for the first one as its rated a lot hotter and RX7 exhausts run rather hot.

Interesting stuff on here...
"Exhaust wraps help to retain heat in your exhaust system, which increases horsepower while reducing radiant heat damage. By wrapping the header and exhaust system it maintains hotter exhaust gases, decreases the density, and allows the exhaust gas to exit the system faster! Greater exhaust scavenging is produced and lowers intake temperatures: that equals more horsepower. Heatshield Products is the only insulation company that offers two grades of exhaust and header wraps: standard and premium. Both grades withstand 1200°F continuous and 2000°F intermittent. Our standard quality wrap is available with regular or black "Vermiculite" coating and our premium wrap has a special heat coating which allows them to take 1200°F continuous. Exhaust wrap can be fastened with Thermal-Tie, hose clamps, or wire."
Is it not self adhesive? I would have thought so??
Darran did those lights turn up in the end?
As far as i know it shortens the life of ur exhaust too...
Ul notice when u start up on a cold mornin the steam rising from the engine bay and the smell from the heat wrap:eek:
But itsnt that just moisture that gets trapped in the "pours" of the wrap?
I\'m going to wrap my downpipe in it. You need metal ties to hold it on....glue does not work, a very knowledgeable friend decided to use it for some reason then noticed smoke pouring from under his bonnet mid journey ;)
Metal ties, cant say iv ever seen them before:o?

I\'ve seen them in the Demon Tweeks Motorsport (red one) catalogue along with the heat wrap they have in there....that first link you put up has a link to some I think :)
You need metal ties prob only 2 maybe three, one at the begining maybe one in the middle and one at the end. The wrap is not self adhesive.
If you want to eliminate the steam problem spray it with high temp paint to seal it.
This stuff is perfect. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hi-HEAT-COATING-Thermo-Tec_W0QQitemZ130015049223QQihZ003QQcategoryZ38786QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem

I have never known this to happen... well unless of course it\'s the el cheapo ones! ;)
Rixio, yes exhaust wrap is highly recommended...
But please buy the better quality types as there are some cheaper inferior ones knocking about that does not last or keep the heat in as well!
Edited to add this link Click click (http://www.thermotec.com/index.html) .. these are well known and very good!
Like Andygen3 said, shortens exhaust life by trapping moisture when car not in use if the car is in a damp environment (such as the UK :) )
But if the wrap has been painted then wouldnt that eliminate this? If this is the case i can easily underseal the whole car again inc the wrap...im sure that would work? & after Friday the car will be in a temp controlled garage for the rest of its life :D
There is a new \'Graphite coated wrap\' that is pretty good...
Have a read on that link I added as I remember it was quite informative.. (believe thats the one)
Wouldn\'t advise painting over the wrap....
The only way you\'re going to avoid rust is by using an exhaust that\'s made from a metal that doesn\'t rust i.e. titanium, but thats pretty damn expensive. A stainles steel exhaust will last a long time because it\'s resistant to corrosion but if you wrap stainless steel it holds in the moisture and causes it to deteriorate, that\'s why I didn\'t wrap my midpipe and catback.
I used this stuff to wrap my downpipe http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Exhaust-Wrap-1-x-50_W0QQitemZ8074032006QQcategoryZ36680QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem, I think TRex provided a link to the manufacturers website a few posts back.
And I used some metal snap-straps to hold down the wrap at each end of the pipe.
Thermotec also do some sealer stuff that you spray onto the wrap which seals up the pours etc. but I didn\'t bother using it.
Rixio - Sorry mate they never turned up, god knows what happened to them. Did you never hear anything back for the couriers?
