Title: changing headlight bulbs
Post by: Ric on November 30, 2003, 10:59:30 PM
Bought some uprated Xenon blubs for the front headlights today but I\'m buggered if I can figure out how to get in to change them.

Am I just being stupid or did I just miss something (it was starting to get dark when I tried to fit them)?

COuld anyone give me some pointers into how to change the buggers?

Cheers

ric

Whilst I\'m on the subject of bulbs...

Does anyone know what the bulbs used in the spot/fog lights in the Mazdaspeed front bumper are? I\'ve just noticed that the fog light on one has failed although both seem to work fine for sidelights.

Cheers

Ric

Just need to get Halfords 501A bulbs.

501 is normal clear side repeater bulb for rx7 and 501A is an orange coloured equivalent.

Hi Ric,

If you put headlamp up you will see 4 screws holding the black trim on [in the sides]

Then unscrew a little way the two screws facing you that hold the top cover on
[ the bit you see when the light is down]

You will then you find another two screws on the back to loosen then pull the cover up and of,

There are then two squeeze clips to let you pull the wiring plug of the back of the bulb,  unclip bulb then reassemble.

You may have to take the headlamp out as well to complet this.

If unsure about the above please take the car to a garage or bodyshop BECAUSE YOU MUST BE CAREFULL WITH THE TOP COVER AS IF YOU FIT IT WRONG IT WILL MARK YOU PAINTWORK AS THE LIGHT GOES UP AND DOWN.

Hope this helps.

p.s. it is worth it as better bulbs do help a lot.

Ahaa. looks like this is where I went wrong then as the "cover" still seemed to be attached at the back so I couldn\'t remove it after I did the first part. I looked but couldn\'t see anything holding it - should have done it in better light I suppose.

I take it that you have to flip the headlights down again to get to the screws at the back then?

Cheers - worked a treat.

Seems to be quite a bit more light from the new bulbs, especially on full beam.

Just need to figure out how to get to the side/fog lights in the mazdaspeed nose and change them...
