Just got my apexi power fc fitted and mapped the other week but hav\'nt had the chance to give it some stick until today. So having a good clear road i decided to put my foot down in 3rd........and as soon as 6500/7000rpm came up the RED HEAT sensor flashed about 3 or 4 times and the knock bar on the power fc was about halfway. Backed off, limped home and switched mazdarotoryclub.com on.
any ideas why its flashing?
Scott.

Hi mate,
Dont know if you have the manual but here is an portion that talks about lamp flashing:
The engine check lamp will illuminate a warning when: the injectors are at maximum
capacity, detonation occurs, or when the pressure sensor is at maximum capacity.
To check for burnt out bulbs, the engine check lamp will illuminate for 2 seconds when the ÂE
ignition key is turned ON.
The lamp will illuminate when the pressure sensor is at maximum capacity ÂE
During detonantion, the lamp will flash 3 times in 0.1 second intervals ÂE
The lamp will flash for 0.5 seconds when the injectors are at maximum capacity ÂE
So sounds like it was a detonation warning, it goes off when the knock measurement goes over 60, but like it says in manual later on just cos your getting a reading of over 60 does not neccesairly mean your getting detonation.
If its only happened the once or twice then I shouldnt worry about it (but back off just to be safe), if its happening more often then you might have a problem, but if you\'ve just had it mapped im sure they would have noticed any detonation.
Are you using the same fuel that it had in when it was mapped, ie if it had optimax when mapped and now your using normal unleaded could cause knock..?
Hope this helps, anyone feel free to correct any errors, im not an expert by any means
Andy
Thats the warning light that your car is detonating. What boost are you running and who tuned the car and programmed the ecu?
Cheers
Adam
It happens only when your Cat is going to hot ... means, your car is running very rich! Its very good for the engine, but very bad for your cat. The heat can destroy it, so the best way is, to put a midpipe on the car and connect the temp-sensor to the ground (I think).

It\'s not the cat...for starters he has no cat :)
The power fc takes over this warning to use as an indication that there is detonation. It may be another warning so if so please put me right. Any idea what the boost was set at and who programmed it? If it\'s at 1 bar and you are on standard injectors then they will be struggling. When i had mine i was told ( by Geff at re-worx ) that really .8bar is just about right on the standard injectors.
Cheers

Adam\'s right.
Really you should look at uprating your injectors and fuel pump. possibly look at getting a FPR also...That way you are eliminating possible causes whilst still ensuring you have adequate fueling for future mods! :D
you could just have a noisy engine, sounds daft but its possible the knock sensor will pick that up and interpret it as detonation
Dave
sorry i cant be any help but how much did mods cost and where did you get them done pm me please
I put my Power FC in tonight. running a base map and did the setup procedure.
I took my car out for a gentle run only to find that the heat light flickers.
It happened twice both around 2500 rpm light throttle (boost still in vacuum - 200-300 mm/hg)
The only mod is a cat back exhaust. I\'m guessing it\'s running rich and as Iwan said, making the cat too hot.
But I also know it\'s best not to guess. I would have thought it unlikely to be detonating though?
Si - you need to get your PFC mapped - the replacement intercooler, if a rull width one like an Apexi GT, will really affect fuelling.
Ignore my previous post as it\'s Scott, no Si, and it has been mapped.
What\'s your duty cycle showing ? - with a larger intercool you might find you now havew fuelling problems and as a aresult need laregr secondary injectors, plus posisble a larger in tank fuel pump and a new fuel pump wiring loom.
