Title: Aerial Mast Help (it\'s not black!!)
Post by: Andrew Harper on October 19, 2006, 08:22:16 PM
Hello everyone,

I have recently bought a new aerial mast for my car. As on the old one the plastic cable has broken.

When I went to pick up the new mast from the Mazda garage, i\'ve noticed that the end of the aerial is chrome not black like it is on the RX7.

I have of course asked if it is the correct item, but I was wondering can you still get the mast with the black end?

Oh dear, I sound like a right geek! haha

Mine came with the chrome cap too. With some care you can hold the top section of the mast in a vice and unscrew the black top of the old one, and swap it to the new one. It worked for me.

Thanks Keith,

Glad you know what I\'m talking on about. I\'ll give it a go at the weekend.

Is it actually on a thread? Could using some of the good old WD40 help?

I don\'t remember using anything to lubricate it. Just try holding the top solid mast section in a vice, protected by some card or similar. Then use grips on the top piece to unscrew it. Again, some card helps protect it.

Just to update for the benefit of others.

Thanks Keith.

Clamped the old mast in a vice and used a "quick clamp". They\'re the yellow G-Clamps with rubber grips. Lots of leverage if needed.

Came undone with no problems.

Put a little grease on the new thread in case I\'ve got the change the mast again (hope not!).

Hand tighten the new aerial top on.
