Title: Another boring intro...
Post by: SiH on October 18, 2006, 12:45:47 PM
Hey All :) , as a prospective owner, and long time skulker round these parts, I thought i\'d better finally register and introduce myself :)
I\'m currently a 14a 200sx owner, and SXOC regular post-whore  - Love the car, and the power, but after my other half recently bought her second Eunos roadster, it\'s made me realise how much my SX is lacking in the handling department.

So I\'m looking at options, and an FD seems like the possible solution :yes
At the risk of sounding like a brown-nosing school kid, i\'ve always loved the FD, and now i\'m in the position where i may be able to afford one in the new year, so I\'m info gathering at the moment! I haven\'t yet been fortunate enough to drive one, but hopefully i\'ll get a chance soon, so i can make my mind up for good, and if they are as good as everyone keeps telling me, i suspect the next few months until i can afford one will really drag!
I\'ll be looking at a very modest spec - I\'m happy with the power of my 270bhpish 14a, so i\'d be looking for one with a recent rebuild basic breathing mods and a PFC, and then concentrating on fine tuning the handling.

I\'ve also been getting some very useful advice froma  top bloke i used to know called Joel, an ex owner of a rather fine white example, and i believe he may have been/still be a member on here (hi if you are :Thumbs-up )

I\'m sure there are loads more stupid questions to come from me, but that\'s it for now! Oh, and I\'m about to sign up for my first ever trackday - The SXOC/MRC/MX5OC one at brands on the 4th of december, hope to see some of you there, and I apologise in advance for letching over your cars ;)
If you\'ve made it \'til the end of this, cheers for listening!
Si

Hi and welcome to the club!

I haven\'t seen Joel around these parts for a while but his old car is pretty ledgendary!

You really need to try an FD to see for yourself, having had an MX5 for 5 years and having driven several FDs (although I have an FC) I would say the handling is similar in feel, just more of it!

Just what I\'m after :Laugh

I think Joel went to the dark side and last i heard he was drag racing American muscle - may just be a rumour though! Never saw his old car in the flesh but i have heard a lot about it. Cracking bloke who\'s given me some top advice though :)

Thanks for the friendly welcome eveyone :)
Quick newbie question that i couldn\'t find by searching (due to my use of really ambiguous search phrases probably  ) - was white a standard colour for any of the FD production years? It seems white ones are very scarce - It\'s just white and black are my two personal favourites, but with currently owning a black car, I\'d really like to have something that doesn\'t show EVERY little imperfection :(

Hi and welcome :)

Yep white was a colour (maybe just some editions?), mine is a 94 Type R2 and is lovely white!

As for handling, make sure you test drive one that\'s had a proper laser alignment and the like as if you find one that seems a bit dodgy to drive then it could just need setting up. Also be careful in the wet and winter!

cheers :) My SX has given me a good intro to rwd turbo charged winter driving, but i can assure you I will still be taking it very easy! hopefully the stock twin set-up should provide a smoother progression than my sx\'s big sudden kick!

I know what you mean about the alignment as well. My sx is just about to have it\'s first alignment since the Teins were fitted - hopefully this should sort out some of it\'s wayward tendencies!

Fantastic news about the white :D Looks like it will just be a case of waiting for the right one to come along then, i\'m in no rush :)

Welcome. Sounds like what you\'re looking for is what I\'m selling :) Blatent plug there ;)

Recent rebuild (less than a month ago), safe reliable mods so as not to over exert the engine plus the PFC and Commander.

What ever one you end up getting, I\'m sure you\'ll love it. These cars are amazing to drive and tonnes of fun.

Well, I\'m back, and I\'m taking the plunge!
Drove my first FD last week just to make sure, but to be honest with the love affair I\'ve had with them I was sold years ago on looks and noise alone :D

I\'m just about to buy a second car, then after that, sell on the S14a and start the hunt for an FD :) It may take a month, it may take a year, but I\'m happy to wait for the right one.

Hopefully I\'ll have something like a 6k budget, although i may be able to stretch to more for that perfect one, and I\'ll be after a Black or white rebuilt FD3, Either totally stock (right, I can see me finding one of them!), or with breathing mods (although I won\'t be buying one with those mods if it hasn\'t go a PFC or similar)

Hope to see you guys soon :)
Now, to sort out my membership.. . :D

Many thanks - it looks set to be a long and arduous road!
However, being in the lucky position of having other transport, Hopefully I should be able to pick and choose, until i find my (possibly rather head in clouds)perfect  spec car for the right price  :)

always worth checking out the for sale section here, many of the cars that sell through MRC are known and looked after.

Do your homework and you won\'t regret it. Bought my first one (fairly standard) about 6 weeks ago. Since then, I\'ve done 1000 of my 5000 mile annual insurance limit, am on first name terms with every Shell station manager within a 20 mile radius, have no money and my girlfriend hates me... And I can\'t stop smiling :D

Awesome cars, worth every penny.

Chris.
