I just want to let everyone know that I am in love!! ------
with my RX8.
I got it two days ago after a lot of hassle with the dealer and mazda but the bad buying experiences have faded fast in light of having the car.
Mine is the light silver and like everyone I have put on the essential air intake blades and rotary crest.
I so agree with Dave on another thread who says it is like you have had the car for ages. The ease of driving and the easy unity of car and driver just takes my breath away. (by the way fantastic pics Dave).
I love the fact that it is incredibly fast, incredibly smooth, takes corners as if they are actually straight. The stereo is fantastic, as is the sat nav (if only i had an instruction manual for it though)
I love the way groups of young men congregate around it to look at it. (just hope noone decides to scatch it). I love it that I can get my two teenage sons in the back and the older one is 6\'2". I also like it when I have to hang around school so their friends can come and look at it. People in traffic and at lights, point and smile. Who needs a ferrari??
My friends are really impressed, I haven\'t shown it to anyone who has had a bad word for it. Mind you, with my enthusiasm perhaps they wouldn\'t dare.
I am will have an idea of fuel consumption later today and its not looking good. Will let you know.
I will post pics when I find out how to do it.
all the best
Y
Hi Yvonne,
Congratulations on getting your car.
I have been getting between 22-24 mpg out of my car on a mixture of local and motorway trips.
After having had it now for 3 weeks the fun still hasn\'t worn off, and I to have forgotten the wait.
I guess the car is going to still be the centre of attention until a few more are on the road. I have only seen 2 others in last 3 weeks - Velocity Red on M25 and Black on M6.
Regards
Dave
well Dave
I filled up for the second time yesterday and put in 47 litres with a trip distance of 187 miles. that\'s 18mpg and two thirds of that mileage was on motorway. So not doing as well as you there.
It was raining heavily when I went from London to near Malmesbury yesterday. The car seems to be quite capable of skidding in the wet . Went round one, mild bend at 50 and the car rolled into the kerb. After that I felt I really had to take it easy on the bends which definately cramped my style. Have you others found the same?
I am learning to use the Sat Nav (without instruction manual) but once you put in the destination, it asks you to pick if you want a route that\'s the shortest distance - which I did. Then if you want a route that avoids motorways - which I didn\'t. What it needs through, when it chooses the shortest route, is secondary choice which it presently does not have. This would be to avoid tiny c roads that run through the front of farms, have 3 foot deep ruts and puddles which, literally, cover your brand new car with cow sh**.
so I am off to the car cleaners this morning.
Who\'s going to the next pub meet on Tues 9th?
Yvonne
Yvonne,
We normally have about 10 people or so turn out to the pub meet. I would list the names of the usuals but dont want to risk leaving someone out :)
I will be there, unless something bad happens at Brands the day before.
Lee
hi Lee
thanks for the reply.
What does the comment about Brands mean?
I have just used another tank of petrol and all on the motorway.
the mpg is 21.5. So a real guzzler. The whole tank from fill up to empty got me a range of 250 miles.
see you at the wharf all things being equal and if the sat nav can find it. Shall I wear an RX8 t-shirt. How will I recognise you guys?
Yvonne
Just that im doing a track day at Brands hatch the Monday before, so hope its all in one piece :)
It would be good if you can come along. How to spot us. Errr. Good question :p
I would think it will be pretty obvious actually, wed be a relatively big group and its not normally that busy. If you are there early you can catch us in the car park!

It\'s a bit scary that you guys seem to be getting such low MPGs - 18 is lower than I get in my FD on motorways (~21mpg).
I wonder if there\'s something with the ECU mapping they\'re using that\'s meaning it\'s impossible to get the factory quoted mpg?
Iain
I said ages ago I heard the economy was worse than the FD and no-one commented.
It was put down to the engine needing more work to get anywhere by the person doing the road test. It kinda makes me feel good about mine though so im not complaining :D
Lee
from another thread...
QuoteToday I did a carefully monitored test and I got 14L/100 km (20 mpg) on the motorway, and the engine was doing only around 5000 to 5500 rpm.
And backing up my theory. If I do 5500 rpm on a Motorway in my FD my speed is going to be pretty silly I think.
Cheers
Lee
Between 113 and 125 ish for those RPM\'s - just looked it up
Hi,
I have some figures from recent fuellings:
1. 44l 230.2 miles 23.8MPG - Cross country trip A road/M-way and about 50 miles of driving to/from work on A roads.
2. 47l 211.7 miles 21.3MPG - trip up Foss way Bath-Warwick journey back on a very wet Friday evening in slow traffic 30-50mph
3. 40l 211.7 miles 24.1MPG - All motorway driving Bath-AGM
4. 32l 146.1 miles 20.8MPG - Approx 80 miles of motorway and rest driving to and from work.
Overall 163l 808 miles 22.5MPG
I will keep the log going to see if there is any change to these figures.
Dave
Hi Dave,
Is yours a high power model?
If so - I think those figures are pretty damn good really.
Thanks very much for posting.
You guys are lucky
When I first got mine about two weeks ago I came home very proud and nearly fainted when I saw another titanium grey rx8 parked about 20 meters down the road (literally)
Some coincidence, eh? The car disappeared for a while, so I still have in my pocket the message I intended to slip under the windscreen wipers - no doubt gone on some european trip or another.
This is happening in Greenwich, by the way, so if anyone is reading this and knows what I am talking about, get in touch for a mini-pub meet for the Greenwich RX8 chapter.
I think this makes Greenwich the area with the highest Rx8 density in the country...
Teo
teo,
i think that\'s a real bummer. I am so enjoying having the only RX8 round here. (Mill Hill, NW London). The only other one I\'ve seen round here is the test drive one from the dealer and I saw a red one P1 RX8 near bristol? Anyone own that one?
Yesterday when i picked up my younger son (14) from school, he had a gaggle of friends watching and as he demonstrated the back doors opening, they all cheered and clapped. it was really great!
I suppose they will get more common soon but right now the rarity is fun. The car cleaning guy yesterday at Brent Cross shopping centre assured me that I had made a mistake in buying the car and what I really wanted was an MX5.
so everyone has some opinion.
By the way who owns the very sexy black RX7 with big rear spoiler that I saw going past copthall, page street in Mill Hill last month? Don\'t think it lives round here cos I haven\'t seen it again.

Don\'t forget the monthly club meet in the Wharf pub @ Dartford (2nd Tuesday in the month)! All rotary people welcome, especially new shiny cars :D
I\'m just up the road from you (St Johns) and there\'s a few other rotary owners in the area too.
Iain
Glenn,
Hi Power. I haven\'t been really thrashing car yet so that may explain good numbers. No doubt they will soon start falling.
Dave
I thought all the current cars were hi power.
Am I mistaken then in the idea that the 190 isn\'t available until January.
Is this pure imagination, i must have got the idea from somewhere.
Yvonne
I concur that anything over 20 Mpg is flipping good for a Rotary, especially at 5k!!!!
I am not sure that 20 mpg is that good, even for rotary. Might be just my rotary innocence, and in a few years when I will become a grizzled rotary veteran I will look back and smile, but I still think it\'s using too much fuel.
The big trumpeted point about the Renesis 13b as opposed to the previous 13b was that it\'s more economical etc. The Mazda published figures say so, and tomorrow Thursday I am going to take the car back and say that it does not perform as advertised, and can they please fix it. There might be some strange setting in the ECU that prevents the engine from performing.
I read somewhere else on the forum (I think there was a link to a different forum) about the guys in Australia having some coolant leaks, then having their engines replaced, and they reported better fuel consumption afterwards. This makes me have some hope.

Hi, Iain
I would like to come. Usually I get home at around 2000 (don\'t ask!!), I hope the meet lasts long enough for me to get there at around 2100 - 2130? I read about the Wharf meetings, I wasn\'t aware this is in Dartford. Are there any directions to the place somewhere on the site?
Thanks
Teo
Hi Teo,
We are stiil there normaly till 10/30ish, see you there.
Every 2nd Tuesday in the month ‘The Wharf’ (pub/restaurant), Galleon Boulevard, Dartford, Kent from 8.00pm onwards. To get there from the Dartford Crossing [M25 ] - heading southbound into Kent from Essex: take the 1st exit (Kent side) then follow the “Bluewater†signs onto Crossways Business Park. Turn right at the second roundabout, (past Mazda HQ!), go straight ahead at the next roundabout and it\'s at the end of the road. Contact Clive@mazdarotaryclub.com for further details.
Hope this helps.

Well my local dealership in Edinburgh has a 190bhp for sale right now .... it\'s a cancelled order but i think they\'ve sold quite a few and now thinking about it the one in the showroom is a 190, so they\'re out there, but just in limited amounts. Of course the dealerships all just got their hands on as many as they could in as many variations as they could, so someone must have snapped up all the 190\'s for themselves. Anyway as Tiff said on Fifth Gear \'... there\'s a 190bhp model that no-one will want ...\' so don\'t expect many to be sold.
Just got my RX8 today after 10 months, and it was definately worth the wait.
Photo attached in rain and in mud !!
It is very quick and got to 110 on the A20 before the words of the dealer sprang into my head " Run in for 1000 miles so no more than 5500 RPM". The 2 things I find astonishing are the room inside and the way the car just wants to keep accelerating way past what a normal engine would explode.
One the dealer said which I\'m a bit worried about is that apparently they have had problems with starting when the engines been turned off and on? He said they had problems in the docks moving them off and on the ship? Anyone know any more?
JR (Bromley)
John,
Congratulations on the car. Manual recommends taking it easy for the first 600 miles, I kept mine to max of about 5,000.
The problem you mention will typically be when the car is started and then turned off after a short distance, before the engine has had a chance to get warm. This results in engine flooding. I have seen a dealer tow starting a car after it had been moved off of the transporter.
If this happens then see procedure on starting a flooded engine on P7-20 of owners manual. Main recommendation is if you always make sure the engine is warm when you turn it off then you should not have this problem.
No doubt others may be able to give you more technical advice on this.
Dave
yeah my dealer also made some cryptic remarks about starting. something like, "sometimes they are difficult to start but just keep turning it over". I have never had any problem with this (touch wood) and haven\'t heard of anyone else having this kind of trouble
wishing you enjoyment of you new car
yvonne
Thanks Guys and Girls,
Its amazing the dealer only told me this after I\'d put a £20k+ cheque on the desk!! Seriously its a really lovely car and I know I have to be careful in the first few months but I drove it to Dartford tonight down the M25 and it just wants to go and you have to stop yourself really putting it through 5,6 r 7,ooo revs.
Great sound system as well by the way and thankfully for me god brakes. Any thoughts on colours? I saw a blue one at the dealer with full Mzda Kit and it was stunning although at £28,095 it should be!
JR
I am a very happy lady.
Having reached the 1000 mile mark I have let loose with the revs and what fun it is. My, it really goes. The lack of torque plus the quiet smoothness gives a sense of flying.
shame its such wet and horrid weather.
I wonder what my fuel consumption is going to be now.
all the best
Yvonne
