Title: Oil Coolers
Post by: nicksterrx7 on October 17, 2006, 01:41:51 PM
A question from a largely non mechanical individual.

My RX has twin oil coolers.  To what extent is it advantageous to have 2 oil coolers rather than 1, i.e. is there significant gain to be had?

If I wanted to replace the stock oil coolers with larger ones, would there be tangible benefit i.e. is this going to lowever overall engine temperature etc.  My car is 14 years old and the oil coolers look like ther have been peppered by many a high speed stone over the years.

I like to keep the engine cool, but would like to know the benefit, if any of having 2 rather than one.  Is it quantifiable?

I bow to the forums wisdom on this.  Your theory please.....

Two oil coolers simply give twice the cooling ability of one.
Uprated ones are available and are very very expensive.
So long as they are intact, and you aren\'t planning to go racing, I\'d say leave them be.

The standard twin oil cooler setup is more than adequate. I have just recently fitted an oil temp gauge and when on the move the oil temps sit at around 70 degrees.
