Title: Manual Boost Controller problem - Help needed
Post by: Matgto on October 16, 2006, 11:58:43 PM
Hi @ all

First sorry for my bad english.

I just got some problems to fit and push the pressure higher with my Greddy TVVC Manual Boost controller :

With the following config on my FD3s 1993 :

- Single turbo HKS T04R
- External HKS Wastegate
- Apexi induction kit
- Front mounted Intercooler
- Apexi Power FC

I just want to know how to fit the boost controller because with my installation i can\'t put the pressure higher... and i dont know how to fit the boost controller now... because he don\'t work with me fitting lol...

i can\'t go higher than 0.7bars.

and i need to push the pressure to 0.9bars.

i have all parts needed for this configuration but just need to know how to fit... with the single turbo and external wastegate...

i have actually fit the boost controller to the wastegate and to the intake... but don\'t work... think it\'s not good or i have forgot anything..

anyone can help me and say me how to fit or can find me a picture with the fitting instructions??

waiting for you\'r replies

many thanks to all!!!

Matt - Switzerland!

it fits on your wastegate signal line, so the tubing off the plenum that goes to the wastegate you need to splice into it, it works by bleeding the air signal so the wastgate will stay shut longer therefore increasing boost

I dont think you need to make anything. Have you got a pic of your engine bay?

We might be able to show you the bit Blitzboy was talking about.

From looks of things there is a pipe you need to cut that goes to wastegate, then fit your boost controller in putting each end of pipe on the two ends of your boost controller.

(Correct me if thats not what you meant Blitzboy)

OK, do you know what bit the plenum is. Dont mean to be offensive just checking there isnt a language barrier :)

I think no sorry lol...

english is a little hard for me but i will try to understand...

now i just have fit the boost controller to the wastegate and to the intake manifold... is that right??

as you can see on the intake manifold pictures, there is some neck where you can fit an air "pipes"... i have fit stoppers (dunno the terms) on the necks and just one a pipe for the boostcontroller...

sorry i dont know any terms lol...

may it\'s easiest with pictures of the installation i have make...

but now i dont have any photo camera :(

I think you have done what Blitzboy said,

There is a pipe which comes off intake manifold and goes to wastegate

Your boost controller needs to go in between

Sounds like you have already done this? Best thing is to post up your pictures and im sure someone will be able to spot the problem.

Nice looking car by the way :) :cool

One other thing, do you have the Commander with your APEXi Power FC? Have you tried upping the boost using that? It worked on mine but I have twin turbos not single so may be different

Right dont say I never tried here is a diagram I have drawn where the vacuum lines should attach

Ha Ha, I was just starting something similar, althoughs yours looks a lot neater :)

Blitz cant you just change the wastegate duty settings to up the boost? or is it different on a single

lol

Well if he is running a single then he will have an external wastegate,
he has to make sure the vacuum line is pluged into the lower nipple of the wastegate, as air is passed into it it presses the diagphram up therefore opens the valve and releases exhaust gases into the downpipe and bypassing the turbo therefore controlling boost ,
more he turns the knob on his controller the less air signal the wastegate will see ,so the valve is slower to raise to bypass the exhaust gas therefore more gas will go via the turbo and spin it harder therefore increasing boost.

The wastegate duty settings are useless on the Apexi as the standard boost solenoids have been disconnected on a single conversion. But you will need to increase the settings anyway on the commander to avoid fuel cut at high boost.

Here endith the lesson lol :rollin

Thank ya Blitzboy that has cleared things up nicely :) I take it you can get solenoids on an external wastegate, like for an electric boost controller, just they wont work with the apexi fc

Electroice boot controllers use there own solenoids, so where his controller is in the diagram is where the solenoid would go. I run a Greddy Profec B Boost controller for boost control, I just use my Apexi ECU independantly to control all the engine parameters eg fuel, timing etc. The Apexi if fine in controlling boost up to 1 BAR on stock twins on standard solenoids

Not sure if this makes any difference, but isn\'t the vac line for the wastegate (whether there\'s a boost controller or not) meant to be fitted pre-throttle body? That\'s where mines fitted - and where the instructions for the wastegate said to fit it - I use the nipple on the actual turbo.

Correct me if i\'m wrong!
