Title: Alarm and remote central locking
Post by: RemarkLima on October 16, 2006, 02:18:18 PM
Hi all,

Having got a fresh import I need an alarm fitted, so taken it to the trusty guy I know who\'s always been very good... And now even to the point where he\'s just given me a call to say he is genuinely stuck with finding somewhere in the door to fit the solinoid to control the locking mechanism. So I said I\'d try and find out what the norm is with these cars!

So any ideas of how it\'s supposed to fit and not foul the window or the other switches / door handle.

Help please!!!!

Mark

I can\'t help you with regard to how to do it, but I was charged an extra £80 to have it fitted to my car when I had my alarm done because the guy had done them before a few times and is his words "they are utter utter B4STARDS to do"

Sorry mate.....

LOL! That\'s pretty much what he was saying! He\'s just spent the best part of 2 hours trying different brackets, different places and sounds like he\'s starting to loose the plot ;)

Any suggestions may save him from madness!

Lol, it is a b@stard to do... I actually done this job myself a couple months back with my mate laughing while he installed the rest of the Alarm...
He\'s a proffessional installer and a personal friend, I asked him what I can do to help and he said \'fit this\'...   \'Piece of p1ss\' I said...
 One hour later..... :Grrr

Got it in a position eventually and it was fine........ until last week... :2Rolleyes
Anyway funny enough I just spent the morning doing it over and got it in a better position......  unfortunatly I have only just catched this thread or I would have taken a pic for you....

I\'ll try and get one for you tomorrow if still needed...

Thanks :D Just where abouts did you put it really?

I\'ve said for now, it\'s ok to go into the drivers door cubby hold thing and I\'ll get a shallower one to fit in there (can\'t see it being used much anyway). But if he\'s not fitted it just yet I\'ll let him know tomorrow.

And speaking of the door cubby hole, they did position that lid in exactly the right position for you elbow to crack the cover! D\'oh! And now mine rattle just a tiny amount ;) There must be something more useful to put there?

Have a word with Gadj on here... he had one fitted and appraently he had to get a locking mechanism with a different size made up to fit it properly...

He might have a contact etc.

but the drivers side isnt working anymore and because the loch`s not been used its abit stiff
so id think twice about having one thats locks the doors.

Cheers Red, I\'ll check to see how he\'s got on tomorrow and go from there.

OK, it\'s just the driver lokc... Well, all the locks are a little stiff, especially when it rains and they get moist! Need to stick some 3in1 oil in there me thinks.

But the idea was to remove the need to use the lock, but interesting you say about not having it... Do your locks still work at all then? Or just stiffened up?

Is it like mine and worse when it\'s wet? (then again I see you\'re in Scotland so it\'d be hard to findout otherwise ;) :p )

It\'s why I\'m thinking a bit of WD40 to rid the worst of the moisture then some 3in1 oil to loosen it up and keep it lubed... Unless people think that\'s bad idea?

keys have been known to snap off in the lock, so be gentle  :)

Recently had an alarm and central locking fitted.

The motor for the central locking will fit directly beneath the door opening mech inside at a 45degree angle and then attach to the cable gives just enough clearance not to cause any problems :)

i will get pics up as soon as the weather clears up so i can get the door card off.
