Title: new owner help needed
Post by: Thulsa_Doom on November 27, 2003, 11:27:23 PM
Hi guys a couple of things giving me grief:

- The stereo that came with my 95 type R was a Panasonic 6 disc changer and tape player head unit. a) is this standard? b) anyone know what radio frequency Jap radios have to be tuned to in order to hear the cd changer? (cannot get the damn thing to come on even though the changer in the boot accepts the cds and wirrs away happily when you put discs in. The screen on the changer won\'t even come on even though the tape / radio head unit works fine - although it only appears to go to 90.0FM!!! Need to replace that).

- How easy is it to remove the gaitor around the gearbox? Mine is tatty and needs replacing. I can get the gearknob off easy enough but the gaitor appears pretty stuck there.

Any advice on either matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Sound like the CD unit has become disconnected from the head unit.

Was a wave expander put on when the car was brought aross ? if so the cable between the head unit adn the CD changer might have become disconnected then.

Thulsa, not sure about the stereo.

But on the gaitor bit I can help.

Gently pull the plastic cover up that surrounds the gear stick. When off, you will see 4 screws that hold it in place. Undo those and it will come away in one piece.

The gaitor is stapled to the plastic guide.

I can do replacement gearstick and handbrake covers in real leather with fire retardant linning (keeps the heat down) for £50 + postage.

so that entire plastic panel that covers round the gearstick, handbrake, heated rear switch etc can come away quite easily?

(just before I go pulling and tugging - ooh er)

Gently stick your fingers under the lip in front of the hand brake and work round until all is loose.
