Title: Headlights Relay or Wiring diagram?
Post by: TRex on October 14, 2006, 02:01:29 PM
My High beam headlights are stuck on.... :reallymad

Even when the car is switched off and locked up with Lights off and retracted......

I am guessing it\'s the Relay thats at fault....

Anyone with a wring diagram or can point out which one is the \'Highbeam Relay!\'

Or any general experience with this of problem for a pointer?

 Thanks

Evening

I\'ve just traced a problem with my lights not coming on, so I\'m pretty fresh on how it\'s all wired. I\'ll have a look at for you when I get home, but it sounds like it could actually be the switch that\'s at fault. the lighting system is a *(&&%^&^% to fault find, particularly as all the wiring diagrams available on the net are for yank cars!!!:2Mad

Much appreciated if you can find something, I\'m gonna have a crack on Monday anyways as the M.O.T. is round the corner and need it spot on!
Also need to rig a fog light back in as well.. :o

Ok, I think it might be the flash to pass switch at fault. Try removing the headlight relay from the relay box at the front. If that doesn\'t stop them, then you\'ve found the fault.

Sounds like switch will be full of dust,  take it off and have a look

Unlikely to be the switch...  the stick opperates fine and generally will not allow the lights to remain on unless there is a major short there..
With everything powered down it shouldn\'t matter if it was stuck or not as the relay should not be energized.
The relay will have more chance of sticking/playing up because of the higher voltage involved!

Will have a shot tomorrow and report..
 Thanks gents

Maybe the relay isnt powering down, cause the switch is telling it to turn on the lights, ?

Unplug the switch and if the lights go out, its the switch, if not its the relay :)

I have a similar problem with my sidelights staying on. I\'ve checked the relay (in the relay box in front of the stock airbox/induction filters) and it is working fine. After some fiddling we found that the main loom which goes past the back of the driver\'s side headlight is faulty. If you move it with your fingers the relay chatters. It\'s booked in this week to split the loom and investigate.

Yours sounds like a stuck relay, but if it operates properly with the engine running you are into other *nasty* problems...

There is a black box in the footwell under the steering column that can sometimes burn itself out, if you can try another box in there that\'ll tell you if its that. I\'d put money on that being the problem.

The main headlight rely would be okay as the main lights come on and pop up. The flasher switch will still work even when the headlight relay is knackered! There is some crazy wiring with these cars!!

Hey TRex did you get this sorted?

My TII has similar symptoms - basically the dim/dip switch doesn\'t do anything and the lights are stuck on main beam when they\'re turned on.

Could be the switch I guess.

The lights used to be stuck up as well when the ignition was on but I think that could well be a separate problem, although it all went wrong at once going over a bump.
