Title: Bonsai Cars
Post by: SupraZed on October 11, 2006, 09:38:35 PM
Hello, my first post, so hello to everyone.
I\'m looking to buy an RX-7 and just wanted to know if anyone has used Bonsai to source a car and what they though of the whole process.

Is it easy, any problems to watch out for, was the car as you expected.

My background is 3 1/2 years of running a UK spec supra TT manual on which I installed a boost controller, suspension, RLTC and various goodies so I\'m very hands on.
Fancied a change so looking at rex\'s.

TIA for your replies.

Zed.

Welcome to MRC :D

You\'ll never regret getting a rex - I didnt, even after it cost me £4k on the first day I got it :p

Plenty of info here on the forum and it\'s helped me loads.  Keep looking around and I\'m sure the guru\'s will be here shortly to point you in the right direction!

Chris

Bonsai Cars seem pretty good as well! My gf\'s Figaro should land in a couple of weeks which we sourced from Bonsai Cars... But then I\'m going to Register it myself, so it\'s just the basic option for me.

Welcome to the Club.

I havent heard anything bad about Bonsai cars but there are plenty of people involved with this club who can supply a car from Japan. Freddy, Brian Ellis, Newera etc etc (sorry for those I\'ve missed). I\'m sure a lot of people on here can vouch for these people.

Are you set on importing ? There are a lot of good cars up For Sale on MRC which have known history and you may even get a bargain with a recent rebuild, its definitley a buyers market at the moment.

Thanks for the replies, I\'m not dead set on importing, just considering it as an option, it seems to be a good way of getting a lower mileage car for very reasonable money.  Also, I not looking to actually get anything till Feb, gives me plenty of time to read up and learn how to do things on these cars.

I spent over a year and half reading up on Supras before I bought one and was dead set on doing as much as posible myself, MKIV.com was fantastic for this.

I haven\'t even got the car yet but I already know what upgrades I want to carry out and which ones I can do myself, once I know the car runs ok to start with that is!!!

Cheers everyone.

Hi Rixio, I\'m in Bradford, so I\'m not too far at all, how long you had your FD?
Have you used Bonsai or similar?

Cheers, Zed.

Jason sorted mine out down at bonsai cars. Real nice lad, he was fitting the speedo converter when i collected from southampton. I dont regret buying from them and didn\'t have any major problems. I do wish i would of waited a couple years though so i could have got a higher spec fd for £6k. Mine was a standard 92 typeR and cost £5800 all in which was cheapest around at the time, average proce was £7k+. I didn\'t have any reciepts but the mileage was low @ 42,000. Never had a problem in nearly 3 years ownership except for a minor oil leak on the oil supply pipes to the turbos.

Iv had FD\'s since i was 18 :Laugh
Coming from a Supra you\'d find even a stockish FD just as quick and have much better handling, had 2 of them so i know. Also if your small like me you\'l preffer the nicer layout of the FD, compared to the bigger bulky Sup, because it just envelopes you...:mmmm

As i said iv been to Jasons place 3 times now so i know what there stock is like. Its a good standard and they can deal with most things if you want to get them to do all the work...are you specifically after importing your own car? There are alot of really good cars for sale on here atm.

If your after big HP Scott Icesurfers T88 is for sale @ £9K! If you want a freshly built, good, reliable, fully kitted car M@rk\'s is another good one and for £8.5k a steal! I know both these cars & owners well and can vouch for them as 110% wont be dissapointed.

Give me a shout if you need anything us local boys have to stick together eh:driving

I have noticed they are posting 2001 cars. Have they done a model report or something??? How are they getting these cars or are they just for folk not in the UK?
