Title: Pics of my new (Mad) RX-7
Post by: b16evl on November 27, 2003, 12:29:08 PM
Hi,

Thought you all might like a look at my new RX-7 - have finally had the time to get out and take some photos. Haven\'t really had a chance to get it out the garage much over the last few months with work commitments and the superb weather out here in West Wales... it is scary enough in the dry - wet weather use does require a complete nutter!

Before you ask - I have only rough estimates of the sort of power it is producing but it seems to have absolutely everything on it. It is extremely noisy - and it seems (a fair bit) quicker then my original HKS GT2530 powered R32 GTR....  Either way I think you\'ll agree it definately much better looking... see what you think:

I think I nearly bought this car, did you buy it from Mike Reilly at A.R.M.  He sent me some photo\'s, apparenttly it was owned by the bloke next door to his importers yard who sells caravans.

anyhow, he never got back to me with the spec, wanted £7K for it back then.

Tom,

Yeah you are right car did come from ARM originally - you should have seen the spec sheet..! I\'m going to try and get it translated - maybe the Japaneese students at the local College will sort it if I give em a few squid..

I actually do buy and sell the odd import and did get this for a song considering the spec - I certainly realised the potential after driving it. It is the first car that I have come out of visually shaken by the shattering performance - I have driven quite a lot of heavily modded cars and nothing has yet come close to this car as yet!

If you were looking for a heavily modded road car for regular road use then this would not have been for you - apart from doing -1mpg it is particularly noisy and very very low - to the point where you are allways concious of the condition of the road surface  - sometimes deciding (with some of our v.poor Welsh roads) its better to turn around and go back rather than smash the front spoiler to pieces!

Now that I am starting to get my head around the spec (including bridgeported engine) I certainly wouldnt let it go for what I paid! To be honest with you I find this one soooo impressive I think I would be reluctant to let it go at all .. I\'m now hoping to prep it for 10 of the best next year and see what it can do!

Need to do an oil change now, rear brakes and tidy the interior which is virtually stripped out anyway with a full roll cage etc. Once this is done I\'ll try and bring it along to a track day or event and see what everybody thinks.

Oh yeah and thanks everybody for the comments...

Shaq - I\'ll check out the intercooler piping etc and let you know..

Greddy/Trust front mount i/c going from the pipe runs...

What engine mods has it got? Is it standard-ish still? stock turbos by the looks of things...

Knightsports kit looks nice :)

Ooops, just noticed you say its a bridgeport. Are they stock turbos still? We had a half bridgeport running a to4e-size single which had a reasonable sized turbine housing on it and it wasnt big enough by a long way I dont think...

Whats the idle like out of interest? And what ECU is it running?

The tubines are v.noisy - much like the GT2530s were on my GTR - sound like roller bearing turbos...... so they could be very hard-pushed stockers on their way out or they could be uprated roller bearing turbos. I would like to think it is the latter but knowing my luck I have a pair of over-boosted stockers!! Not sure if you can get uprated twins for an RX so wouldn\'t know - shes running 1.2bar at the moment!

To be honest I don\'t really know enough to comment on the spec of turbos etc so any help/advice would be great - best probably if I get some phots of ECU, turbos etc - has an RE... something on the ECU (sorry about not being specific but think from memory it is in Jap!) sticker on it.

Idle is very rough - and she fuels like crazy on tick over - only happy when it is being pushed - the harder the better!

Wow, I didn\'t even think you could get a bridgeport through an MOT. That has to be unreal to drive! Even more jealous now :)

I recognise that car !

Hi Richard - Andy here (the guy that came close to buying your R32 GTR a few weeks ago :) ). Awesome looking and sounding car that RX-7 of yours and having followed it for a few miles I can confirm it looks a handful in the wet :D

I still haven\'t found a R32 and regret not buying yours actually. At the time I didn\'t realise how good it was because it was only the 2nd one I\'d seen but I\'ve since been to see a few more and finding a tidy one is proving difficult :(

Which is why I\'m in here actually because an RX-7 is becoming more and more tempting :D

its around 0.7bar i think im sure some1 will correct me if im wrong and the general safe figure without upgrading fueling ecu etc is apparently about 0.9 bar

absolutely fantastic mate, that car is a dream. You must have one huge grin on your face when behind the steering wheel. What you need now is to go to a car show and park next to your twin Paul TII who has one in red.

Yes you were correct - ECU is an Amemiya (Redom?).

Mike, the guy who runs ARM imports can\'t get to the spec sheet online anymore as it has been removed (I should have printed it!)...  The only thing we did find was the auction sheet stating that the car had been professionally built by a Japanese tuning company for circuit racing.

I\'ll have a good look at the RX this weekend and see if I can work out the extent of the modifications...

RE-A Redom. It\'s a non-programmable chipped computer. Unless u can get it back to RE-A for tuning it will be staying as tuned by them. I would seriously have that in mind running 1.2bar(!!!!!) on UK pump fuel...you want to look after your luuurvely B/P motor after all.

Hope this Helps
