I have read a few treads here, but how many people are there that have one in the UK.
Would you do the conversion again?
Can it be a daily drive?
Did you build it or have someone else build it?
Do you track it? how does it fair?
Things you dislike about it? (theres got to be something)
Cheers Neil
LS1? As in Corvette engine? Sorry if im off the mark like...:Hammer
Go and see Craig in Brum its worth the trip if your only in Leicester. He\'s built it with the intention of it being a daily drive. Put your seatbelt on if he offers a ride!! 6litre - 526hp - 35mpg. If you do a search on this forum youl find his email or even his number I think on various threads. From my own research it weighs no more than the rotary and can\'t see the weight being any higher up either. If you like I will call him tomoz and ask if he minds me passing on his number if you cant find it. I have not heard of any one else in the uk having one yet although there is a car being done for his mate at his garage at the mo and then another to follow that one i think. There are a handful of people on this forum considering it so if you do check his car out please post your thoughts - i for one would love another opinion of it.
Craigs a top guy, he\'s brought his car over to the meet at the Brittanic offices a couple of times.
He\'s done a good install, looks well.
I think I\'m right in saying he\'ll do the job, with a new unit, for around 10k. It aint a cheap alternative.
No matter how much power you got stopping the wheels spining is the hardest part.

A few rolling shells come up for sale now and then so it could work out as expensive as a well modded 13B then? deffinitly worth thiniking about especially since the there are so many aftermarket parts for them and the pound is doing really well against the dollar:3gears-lh
So what car is the LS1 engine out of then?
an earlier corvette
ls1 is early corvette or even camaro i think ls1 is popular choice for this conversion
Theres a guy in the states that has a C6 model ZO6 engine in his FD...i a word its "Mehental"
Quote from: RixioSo what car is the LS1 engine out of then?
Here are some of them but there have been loads,
Pontiac : GTO
Pontiac : Firebird
Chevrolet : Camaro
The LS1 was is used in some corvetts but i thnk the LS6 is used in the Z06. I from what i ve been reading the LS1/2/6 parts are very interchangeble. someone one who knows what there talking about is going to come along in a minute and tell me to shut up.
Anyway i\'ve been reading alot over at //www.torquecentral.com there very informative.
There are a couple of ls7\'s around too $$$. The engine can be found closer to home in ls2 form in a Vauxhal Monaro.
HI to answer some of your questions i built it myself and it is a daily drive thats its main use i do intend to do some track use but maybe next year ,it all works like a factory car ,no probs its good on fuel ,reliable, good all round, sounds great . ls1s are fitted in corvettes,gto\'s,monaros,trans ams, camaros and more they are so popular in the states ,check out //www.torquecentral.com there are lots of fcs and fds done over there cheers craig

You mean a Holden Monaro with Vauxhall badges :Giggle

This I am VERY interested in...
can you give us some more details (and pics!!:Laugh )... how much did the conversion cost? is the f/r weight balance the same? is the cog of the engine higher up than the 13B\'s? have you kept the origional transmission? cooling system? AC? generally everything!!
I would absolutely LOVE an LS1/RX7, but there seems SO little info about them in the UK, let alone any workshops that can undertake such a project....
..so please tell us all!! I\'m sure there are many others that would be chomping at the bit if there was a relatively hassle-free path!
Been busy researching and chatting away on Torque central and it seems that 500rwhp is quite (that term is used loosly) easily achievable.
LS2 +:
*LS2/LQ9 w/ 4.0" Crank STD bore = 402cid $2,195.00
(http://i10.ebayimg.com/05/i/08/9b/c6/f4_1.JPG)
*AFR 225 SBF Race Heads US $1,939.00
(http://i24.ebayimg.com/01/i/04/2b/f5/02_2.JPG)
*FAST/COMP CAMS LSX INTAKE FOR LS1/LS6/LS2 90MM US $743.32
(http://i7.ebayimg.com/01/i/06/63/59/ca_2.JPG)
* A healthy cam, dont really know much about that but should\'nt think it would cost that much.
All this stuff is easy to get through ebay.com lack of the knowledge in the uk about these engines is the number one enemy, these engines can handle so much nos it makes you giggly. PS LS2 engines are about 3000USd more than a equivalent LS1. personally the only thing i dont like about these enginese is they tend not to be able to rev much past 6,500rpm
Neil
Monaro also uses the same series of engine.
(LS2 in that instance)

Yes but i thought the Monaro has been discontinuted in this country?

Yeah, its going next year, thought you had a scoop on it gone already then, LOL
Vauxhall hasnt said yet (as far as im aware) if it will be bringing in anything similar to replace it, i guess it will depend on how many they sold of the existing one and what they think the market wants.
Personally i hope they do bring over the replacement later on, properly cool cars i reckon.
This is a repost, but i just love the noise of that v8!

OMG! :mmmm that noise is awesome. i wish my fd sounded like that. it\'s the one thing fd\'s really miss out on-it\'s usually all exhaust and turbo noise.
