Title: RX8 Delivery
Post by: John Ridout on November 25, 2003, 01:54:39 PM
Can anyone help? Is anyone else having problems with delivery of their RX8 from TW WHite & Sons? I was told it was coming into the country on the 5th December 2003 and I could pick it up 8 days later. Now I\'m being told that they have to register 60 cars before the end of December and because the RX8 does\'nt count towrads their quota that the RX8\'s will be registered once all the other cars have been done !! This morning they said I possibly could have it the 22nd December!!

Apparently Mazda have said they may lose the Franchise unless they hit their quota which is\'nt my problem, I just want my car !!

I would consider getting this in writing from them and then contacting Mazda.
Title: deliveries
Post by: Yvonne on November 28, 2003, 07:58:29 AM
I just got my RX8 HOORAY.
Sorry if I  sound smug but I also had a hell of a time getting the damn thing. I know how  very disappointing/frustrating it is when you are eagerly waiting for your new RX8.

i have written a long letter to Mazda about their handling of the whole thing.  My sense of Mazda UK is they don\'t know what they are doing and they don\'t care about the car buyers. They channel customer complaints the their helpline which is not able to communicate with the head office. so although they are friendly they can\'t do anything.#

Mazda UK also treats the dealer as the customer, not us. so they don\'t want to get involved and any problem is put down to the dealer and just handed off.

I have attached the letter I sent which has the names of the relevant people and directors at Mazda UK etc on it.

Ultimately I fear there is not much you can do. We have no choices here, its not like you can just take your business elsewhere and that means they can all do what the hell they like.

I am sending my letter to Japan to see if they are interested in how the UK customer is experiencing buying an RX8.  My friend who works for Mazda in US is getting me some names and addresses on Monday. Perhaps you would like those too.

yvonne.

Hi Yvonne,
I think that you are right to complain.
I have read the letter that you have written and it is exactly the right tone, polite but firm and to the point.
I look forward to further updates as to how Mazda respond to this.
Well done.
Kind regards
Carl

Yvonne, thats a great letter. I sent mine to Jeremy Thomson at Mazda UK and just got bland responses from him, and he did\'nt have the curtesy to even sign them himself. Anyway TW White are useless and on Tuesday promised me  a call back telling me when I can have my car. No call came, and when I rang them they\'d forgotten all about me and I had to explain the situation again ! They still can\'t tell me where my car is or when it will arrive, and I have to ring them on the 8th December and they will see if they can register it before 20th December when I\'m supposedly on a ferry going skiing !!

As an aside I found out why they are not interested in getting the cars out the door, and its because the RX8 is not part of the quota for each garage, and they do not receive any money for each car sold. This goes directly to Mazda, and TW White get an "admin" fee. Basically there\'s no money in it for them so why bother.

Carl
why were you expecting a bashing? don\'t get it.!!
The car is beyond all expectations. it is the DBs (I hope people understand that).  I love it. You can throw it round corners and it just doesn\'t care.  I have been advised to keep the revs under 6000 for the first 1000 miles.  Does this make it slow- no- it absolutely flies. I can\'t imagine what it will do once I can thrash it.

Makes my old car, Astra coupe turbo feel like a cheap, crappy, clunky, shaky outmoded form of transport.  One of my dear girlfriends who has never come across the RX8 before. says that it was like being in a car from the future or a sci-fi movie.

I sit at lights and the people in the cars around me, point and smile.  Boy racers cut me up trying to impress and fail miserably.

Was it worth the wait.  you betcha.

John I know its really frustrating but the car is wonderful.
I just hope the people at mazda Europe or Mazda Japan come to understand how bad the buying experience has been for their customers.

I am interested in your assertion about the dealer not getting money, this was not the case for my dealer.  The dealer that I originally ordered from was disenfranchised by Mazda at beginning of Nov which of course exacerbated the bad service. But the new dealer inferred that the commission was to be split between the new and original dealer so they are getting the money.  also I remember him saying (when I eventually got my delivery date) that he was happy that he would be able to add another car to his Nov sales figures which kind of doesn\'t fit with the information you have.  Perhaps different dealers have different relationships with Mazda?

wish you all the best anyway and good luck

Title: EastGate Mazda Bristol- Great Service
Post by: CaptainRX8 on November 28, 2003, 02:03:36 PM
I\'d just like to say that I have had exemplary service from the  Bristol Dealer Eastgate Mazda
I took delivery of my Red (228bhp) RX8 red leather (nice.....)[best quote from work: its like a boys bedroom from the 1980\'s] {YES !}
last Thursday. It was a cancelled order that I grabbed with fast hands back in September. They said delivery dates from 9th to 15th November and finally arrived on 17th.....they kept me informed all the way....Thanks June Waterer and John (The Finance Guy ) for all your help,
The car is absolutely fantastic and exceeds all my expectations.
Clarkson is for once totally right....don\'t know about skittish in the wet though...we shall see....

Captain RX8

Off to Norfolk this afternoon....the real test....a road movie.....!

sorry carl
I  meant Clive but thanks for the encouragement with the letter.

Captain RX8- well at least someones getting good service.
Bit jealous to hear about your being able to get one so quickly though.

I just took my mum out in the car and she was well impressed, not so much by the car "can you drive slower please" but by all the attention we were getting especially from young men.

I think it made her day and didn\'t do mine much damage either.

Title: help needed
Post by: Yvonne on November 28, 2003, 09:34:31 PM
OK guys at the risk of sounding like a typical woman who doesn\'t know anything about cars (which,to be honest, I am) I need some help.
In the boot of the RX8 there is a rectangular depression. In the owner\'s manual it shows tools such as wrenches, wheel braces etc here.  Are they underneath the rectangular depression? in which case how do you access them or alternativley are they supposed to be in the depression in which case are they missing?
I just don\'t want to start ripping up the boot lining for no reason.

Also I have the Sat Nav fitted but no instruction manual on how to work the bloody thing.  Although I am managing I would like to get the finer points like how to turn the damn thing off.

Anyone else got one and did you get a manual? can you tell me what it is called or what it is like etc so I can try and get mazda to send me one (likely event that!).

By the way I am totally in love with my car.

Thanks
Yvonne

sorry
I found the tools. They are of course in the little box at the back of the boot with the jack.

No luck with the sat nav instructions though.

Yvonne,

Excellent letter indeed! I had dealings with Chris Twine with my MX5 when I had problems and you are right.....Mazda UK seem uninterested and they do not support the dealers either. It\'s only because of the excellent service my local dealer in Southampton has provided (and that the 8 is a unique car) that I\'m buying another Mazda.

Should I experience any problems though I will again be putting my feelings in writing to Mazda UK.

Cheers

Hi John,

Hmmm - sorry to hear you are having hassles getting your car, please keep us all informed though.

Maybe Clive can pull some strings for you? I\'m not sure - as it looks like the dealership are the ones who need to get their act together.

.ps Yvonne - so happy for you that you love the car.
.pps Yvonne - post up another thread if you can in the Your RX-8 section telling everyone about the car (I was going to split this thread but I thought it would be better if you started another one).
Title: reply from Mazda
Post by: Yvonne on December 04, 2003, 10:09:28 AM
just received a long, explanitory and apologetic letter from the MD of Mazda.

they have offered to pay my first service cost which is good and give a long explanation for delays and say they are learning from their mistakes etc.

so it was well worth writing.

Yvonne,

Its amazing what a letter can do. I hope you don\'t mind but I borrowed a lot of your letter and sent it to Mazda UK last week, and low and behold I gets a call Monday saying would I like the Car Friday (Is the pope a catholic?) I said too right I would. Anyway nothing official yet from Mazda but the dealer is throwing in some mats FOC although when I asked for the Chrome wheels as compensation he laughed, well you can only try.

Anyway if anyone sees a velocity red RX8 with red/black leather in the Bromley area, just stop and say hello.

Title: glad to be of service
Post by: Yvonne on December 10, 2003, 05:36:57 PM
hi John
Glad the letter helped.
I just hope if  anyone else sends another one, they don\'t catch on.

I was well pleased with being offered a free first service but then I thought it was hundreds of pounds. James at the pub meet told me its only £100. Never mind, better than nothing.

He is also in Bromley I think and has a titanium grey rx8.

take care
Yvonne

Yvonne,

Don\'t worry I just used the tone and changed the wording of the letter.

I\'m going to try to get to one of the meets at Dartford next month.
