Title: FD Spark Plug Change
Post by: rxangus on November 25, 2003, 08:29:52 AM
Hi All,

Have a set of NGK plugs at hand and think it would be wise to change them out as I don\'t know how old the ones in my car are. What\'s the easiest method/access for changing the plugs on an FD. Is there an idiot\'s guide anywhere?

Thanks

Angus

The easiest way to get at your plugs is to go in from underneath.

Beyond that it is just like changing plugs on any car.

If you dont fancy from underneath, then remove the black plastic elbow, for the air intake, I find that gives enough room from the top (just!)

I agree with Martin, remove elbow and then take a while playing with variuos ratchet/plug sockets combinations until you find the right method for you. I use a small 3/8 drive socket and a halfords spark plug socket. Doesnt take long once you\'ve done it once; still not sure how Geff has them out and in again in about 3 seconds (or so it seems some times) though!

I\'m intending to do mine when I do my belts (as everythings out) any chance of someone taking a photo or using a pointy arrow as I have no idea where they are... :bandit

Look at motor from front of car. Black or silver \'elbow\' pipe goes from intercooler to throttle body (which is bolted to the plenum). Remove that pipe and look down that side of the block (i.e. stand on passenger side of engine bay and look at that side of the engine! you\'ll see the plug wires going from the coils down to the plugs...
