I got a 2nd gen, 13b fc... and its always been a little fumey if I go any real speed with the windows open... well... just had a full service, and a load of welding work done, and before I fork out for the respray, wondered if anyone had any ideas on this fuming please ?? I think I have read somewhere about a carbon filter, but cant find the post, and got no idea where it is located.. however, when I changed the front bumper I noticed this unattached lightweight plastic "thing"... and got no idea what that is either... lol.
Im getting to know my baby, slowly, so just wondering if any of you experts had any ideas please.
Oh and some git has kicked my door... grrrrr... dont you just hate malicious people ??:reallymad
Hi Sarah,
l used to own one of these cars indeed it was this model that started my rotary passion.
Can\'t remember the piece your describing [ any chance of a pic] but personally l would start looking for an exhaust related leak from what you describe.
Hope this helps.
All the best Clive

Ok, does it smell like raw petrol, or does it smell like exhaust fumes?
If it is petrol, I would suspect the fuel injectors are leaking.
These are like a small spray gun that squirt a fine mist of petrol into the engine. They have a little rubber seal that can easily be dislodged/damaged , and I suppose they could leak just through age eventually, too.
The charcoal canister canister is in the engine bay on the right hand side of the car, (according to the Haynes manual anyway)
