Evening all!
Just had the car up in the air to check over the suspension and see how hard it is to swap over (not very I\'m pleased to say!) and to my delight, I\'ve got a set of Ohlins on there! Height adjustable (only through spring preload mind), and more so I know someone who should be able to get them rebuilt! Hurrah!
So many thanks to Eddie, some nice soft road friendly suspension should be here soon and I\'ll be able to send off the ohlins :D
However, I\'m thinking it could be coming up to rebuild time, but I\'m going to give the ignition system a refresh and do a poor mans compression check before jumping to any conclusions...
Depending on just how hard it is to swap the struts I may go for some really hard suspension for the track and nice soft stuff for the road, best of both worlds :D
Thats no fair.... Eveyones getting new suspension and i\'m left with uneven stockers.
LOL.
Nice one mate, Ohlins are realy good.
LOL, trust me it\'s far from new! But then with a bit of brake cleaner it came up all nice and shiney ;)
The rears are pretty bad so I just hope that they\'re still serviceable!
My dad works for a team in the BSB SuperSport and practically half the grid run Ohlins, so they\'ve got a good rep for me :D
But I now know Nitron are looking for a car to develop some suspension with, they\'ve got all the machineing done and everything ready to go, just need setting up... They were excellent shockers on my old Lotus! So if you fancy being a guinea pig (and spending some cash!) ;)
I\'d love too but cash flows not too hot at the mo.
Right...
1st thing, is that they aint actually Ohlins im afriad, they are made in japan and branded Ohlins. If you were to send them off to Ohlin they wouldnt be able to rebuild them because they are jap spec ones.
2nd thing, rough cost on rebuilding them is £520 all inc for full rebuild with new seals and parts. This is only done by 2 different companies in the UK http://www.aurok.com/ & http://www.mickgardnerracing.com/main.html where im getting mine done
3rd thing, think about if its really worth getting them done, the car will be off the road for 4 weeks roughly and at the cost of £500+ you can get a nice new Tien kit for a tad more
4th thing, they will also need setting up properly which is another £300 roughly if done proffesionally, so bare this in mind.

Well, that sucks! Are they copies then? Or is it a different spec?

K-Tek do Ohlins for the bikes, who my dad knows very well, however if they\'ll look at car suspension I\'m not sure yet... I\'ll find out soon enough tho\' ;)

I\'ve got a set of standard suspension from Eddie, which\'ll be easy to swap so no time of the road really... But then the Teins are starting to look much more appealing!

Aye, getting everything setup is costly, but then if I\'m feeling in the mood I\'ve setup cars before with plumblines and rulers, old race car style! It just takes a whole day to do... Then again I know a few races who do it all the time and get everything setup in no time at all!

It does indeed! Thought it seemed un-usual that they weren\'t adjustable... Shame, I thought I\'d save some cash rather than get some Teins! C\'est la vie ;)
Just actually realised, you said they are only height ajustable and arent coilovers:Hammer must say it\'l probably be considerabley cheaper to rebuild and easier to setup :)
I have the top spec Ohlin Coilovers that retail at something like £2800ish according to auruk. With god knows how many settings & stuff i cant do it myself...i did set the height on the rear but kinda f*ckd the btm nut because my c spanner was too small and i had to hammer them free! All 4 wheels sat at different heights, i did the rear but the front ones are still set at different heights so i need to do it when i get the car back otr and get hold of the correct size spanner...
Stiffness wise all 4 are different again as i had them shock tested at Gordons and the printout showed masive variation between stiffness and throw!
Just buy a set of Aragostas !
:D
Are they the best at the moment?
I have a pall who\'s just been advised to buy some (these are winging there way from Japan)
They where not to expencive so if there good i may invest?
Apparently best off the shelf suspension you can buy for a Rex.
Saving up for a set myself. What was your mate quoted ? I was quoted £1500 including shipping from Japan
My Mates just payed £1300 for a set. Are ther diffrent Models?
Who was that from ??
Was quote for Aragosta FD3S specific suspension kit (Standard sports spec). These had adjustable bottom mounts too, which enabled ride height to be adjustable independent of spring preload, meaning suspension needn’t be any harder than required, and get a particular ride height to meet driving conditions.

Isn\'t the tein flex kit like that? It\'s why it\'s so popular? Personally I\'ve always been happy with spring preload meself ;)
Aren\'t the Teins quite crashy for UK roads ?
Depends on what you\'re using the car for, if it\'s purely track/ weekend or daily driving

TBH i\'m not sure who it was but i can find out.
