Been putting my thinking cap on, and i came up with this;
Ive been after a bov for a while as the compressor stall doesnt sound to clever for the turbo. I was told i could put one on the elbow, and that i had a joint and a hose (capped off with a bolt) near the throttle body.
So i got my original bov and cut the hose and fitted it like so;
Is this a waste of time? will it handle 1.2 bar and will it work?????.
Cheers andy:Ladys-man :Laugh
It\'s gotta be better than nothing!
can\'t see it working there at all! that\'s on the intake
It\'s plumbed in just before the throttle body, probably the best place for a dump valve.
...which is where it should be - the idea of a BOV is to release the pressure between the throttle plates (which are shut) and the compressor wheel - so as long as it is somewhere between either of those 2 points it\'s ok.
The real question is can the stock recirc valve hold off 1.2 Bar, and will it stay airtight when it\'s supposed to and not leak boost out of your intake.
I think it should work - question is how well.:)
Thanks for the input guys:driving
The 1.2 is high boost and it rarely see\'s that unless the cars being used in anger. So I reackon it might be okey as a tempory measure running at the lower 0.9 bar, until funds allow, then will probably replace it with a forge/bailey item.:Santa
Crackin! I Like it! :cool
But agree that 1.2bar on those babies will probably damage them to vent almost always!
I don\'t know why some one has\'nt thought of that already??? Thats spot on, you could\'nt put it any better place.
Can\'t you route the Vac pipe a bit better though ;) you want it as short as poss while still on the Engine side of the Throttles.
I used tiny cable ties to route a boost pipe in with all the brake lines - works pretty well - that should work :yes
It should work well.
So does it make a nice Noise :)
Without meaning to jump in : It is actually pretty good, It\'s also pretty loud! :burnout
is that from inside or outside?
I used to run my single turbo with that setup, worked fine.
Quote from: Grizzlyis that from inside or outside?
Aint heard it from outside but it\'s just the right volume inside - just a short burst but it\'s reasonable.
Im thinking of changing to an SSQV when I get hard pipes & go to 1bar.
Super duper, at last gandy does something right:rolleyes: :Santa
Havent fired her up yet so dont know how it sounds, looking forward to tomorrow !!!! hope the sun has its hat on!

Yep your right, that does need sorting:p
I have that spigot on the elbow blocked off by a rubber nipple & clamp?!? What is it supposed to go to?
It\'s supposed to be like that on J-Spec cars, it\'s only used on US spec cars (something to do with AWS)
I think mine was used, it had a 10 inch hose on it, blocked off by a bolt. (this was done when i had some fuel bits put on and mapped.) I was told what it was for but forgot:2Rolleyes :3Confused
What does AWS mean???:2Confused blimy im thick as a brick, lol.
is your car pink??? :-s
I have done exactly this myself - good to know it\'s a recommended mod! :)

It\'s used on UK Spec cars to - No idea about it though! :King
Quoteis your car pink??? :-s
Whats wrong with pink then? im also a hairdresser and named Quentin:p
No its not pink but the pics do give it that shade i guess:rolleyes:
Not sure if this is up to the job really. Had the car out all weekend bedding in my new pads, and it vents nicely at low revs/speeds (and doesnt sound like a chav mobile:cool ) but if i changed gear after WOT i still get the turbo flutter, still its better than nothing i suppose:2Confused
Now its turned into a Ptsssccchhh Cha cha cha cha cha :evillaugh

AWS - Accelerated Warmup System - basically dumps air from the the inlet pipe into the throttle body to assist warmup of the engine / cats - characterised by the hard revving when the engine is just started - really not such a good idea IMO.
It can be defeated by the driver by starting the car in 1st Gear (with clutch engaged - Doh !), which tells the ECU not to operate the solenoid valves for AWS. It can be defeated permantley by removing it !:yes

AAAAhhhh now that is usefull to know!!!
It also becomes redundant when not running a factory ECU.
You can also stop the car revving for 30 seconds by depressing the clutch or blip the throttle - cant remember which.
Does the other end just vent to the atmosphere?

Yes mate, gives you a little whooooooooosh :p
helps get the ladys;) :cool

Right, im plumbing in 6 of the beggers then! :chat
Mmmmm, revived from another recent post, do you still have this setup Gandy ?
I have a UK car too with this elbow and the AWS setup (now redundant thanks to the Apexi :) )
Do you plug the originally used location (on the y pipe) and use this one instead ? Is it better than coming off thr Y Pipe ?
Howdy, I did this mod when I was running my single turbo, so didnt have the \'y\' pipe.
If you can block that \'y\' pipe off surely any bov nearer the throttle body will be better.
HTH
Oh right ok, would it be ok to run this setup with standard twins then?
I was under the impression that you wanted to release the pressure close to the turbo :2Confused
I can block off the Y pipe no problem, but would appreciate any thoughts anyone has :)
