Thats if you want to use the FD Apexi ECU.

yeah this is a point - but is the FC apexi ECU actually different from the FD one ????

I noticed on E-bay a few weeks ago there is a Harness about four inches long that can be put on an Fd so you don\'t have to cut into the main harness to fit stuff like Turbo timers and Boost controlers etc. That would be cool if you got one and moved all the pins about to Stu\'s Diagram then it would make a Cheap PFC adapter.

I don\'t think there was a PFC for the FC...there were pre modified ones that had already been adapted inside.... or came with an adapter loom.
On e of the differences though is that the FD never used an AFM

I think the Map or Chip may be diffrent.(in the add they make a point of taking a pic of the Chip)

thats interesting - looks like a loom to make the FC loom fit correctly - but has an FC3S chip in it ?!?!

Chip is a masked ROM processor - so the whole processor is swapped out - changing the program with it.

Makes sense this would work, as the 2 engines are actually very similar - just differences in some of the outboard components, parameters and so on.

As I understood it, there were 2 generations of the PFC - an older 8 bit version and the newer 16 bit one.

The 16 bit version would offer a lot more in terms of control and map points, as the processor would be able to make finer adjustments and more frequently.

Interesting that the board shown in the picture has less than half the component count of a stock ECU !!

I have done this just a week ago. After second engine failure with my Microtech, I have decided to go with ApexiPFC. I have installed the FD PFC version into my Series4 !!! Runs fine with special map, but will not run with FD map.

you can download a video from my website, but the quality is bad as it was made with my mobile- phone. Use Windows MediaPlayer to watch or Mplayer on linux.

Do no m8.

I can program the ECU and it is full working condition. Car runs, but I have lost two engines with is due to excessive knock even the ECU shows 5° degs as it was set to.

it is yours for 350 GBP with loom and the adapter.

hummm might give it a miss on 2 accounts

1 - spent a load of money on the FC recently
2 - i assume you know what you are doing - i want my engine in one peice

im sure someone will snap it up at that price though :D

it will be in one peice,,, but you will missing an apex seal or two or three ^^

however, will run it on my egi if nobody want it.

happy with ApexiPFC now, only my RPM are reading a half of real value.....

used datalogit to put it in. I also run another FC with T04R and PFC. So was nothing new to me about it.

The only problem I have come across with the microtech is that it doesn\'t control the OMP so you need to run on premix. Can\'t see why you would have been suffering excessive knock with the ECU showing 5deg unless there was a sensor problem? Keep us updated on the PFC route, I\'ve never been a fan myself, but there is no logic to that, I just prefer the microtech\'s software from a visual and useability point of view.

I have been trying to decide between a PFC or the MicroTech for the FC that I am putting together.... I didn\'t know you couldn\'t run the OMP from the Microtech... that changes a few things
I have also read of people tossing engines due to the ignition lock being left on when driving.

Urm can\'t you run a OMP with a Microtech? I was led to belive the LTX10 had a OMP driver (or could have one as an Extra)

I was also led to belive the Microtech has better Maps and is more user Frendly.

The only reason PFC\'s are so popular is there Plug and play unlike the Microtech that could be adapted to Plug and play but is usaly fitted with a New engine loom (which by the way is another advantage with a car thats well in the Teens, you get rid of the old Brital engine loom)

If you need any advice on Microtech\'s i advise you speak to this guy, (Jon Blanch @ //WWW.RXEngineering.com)

Early TII\'s had a rod linking the OMP to throttle to adjust oil flow, so you could run Microtech without going premix using that setup.

The OMP issue isn\'t a major problem, just means you have to remeber to run premix! To be honest, bearing in mind the cars are getting on for 18-20 years old now, the OMP won\'t be as good as it was anyway so running premix is a better option (at least the volume of oil in the mix is constant)

The Microtech can be plug and play now, they make a plug and play adapter (extra cost) but then you are going to be relying on a 18-20 year old wiring loom :2eek

The front casing on the engine I have has a throttle link thing that I couldn\'t work out what it was. I was going to swap the front casing for the standard engine I pulled out of the car.
I have got a block off plate kit.... so I can block everything off including the omp anyway, which still requires swaping the front casing.

Only the S4\'s and the EGI\'s had the mechanical linkage, I modded the actual linkage on my old EGI (ei changed it to a shorter one) to get the oiling up.
Its OMP on all UK turbos and cabriolets.
