Hello,
Recently my pully belt has decided it likes to squeal. I don\'t like it as it sound like its in pain. The last week I opened up the bonet to watch it squealing and I sprayed it with some WD40... it liked that! Squealing stopped.
Next morning squealing again (think I woke her up hehe)
Now which options best
a) greese it a little some some greese
b) buy a new belt - dunno how easy they are to put on?
anyone else had it?
ta
Andy
buy a new belt ... and a mazda one at that, the others don\'t last very long
K will do... get one from Jimmy\'s I guess?
how easy (note I say easy and not hard) are they to put on?
not very hard if they are easy to get too, if not it may be a bit tricky.
which belt is squeeling ? maybee another third gen owner can jump in and give tips on changing ?
Shouldn\'t be too hard to get to

the arrow tip is where I sprayed it going round and seemed to work
i\'ve just had exactly the same problem!!
i hate sqeaky belts, i refused to drive my car untill i sorted it!
mazda wanted £120+vat for the belts and a three week minimum wait, eeeer no thanks!
so i rung jimmys and they were 25 squid + vat and postage and i ordered them on the friday and had them on the monday!
they took about 2 hours to fit and while i was there i replaced both of them to save near future hassle!
theres a tensioner on the alternator and one on the power steering pump (thats one for each belt)!
theres also a tensioner on the underside of the air-con pump if the alternator belt dont slakern off enough!
i also removed the hard pipes and some breather hoses to make life easier and stop me pulling my hair out!
the grease wont last forever!!!
have fun
cheers for the help Tom, pay day tomorrow so time to order some goodies :D
glad it\'s not too hard to do, don\'t mind spending some time on my baby :D
can you tell me exactly what ya ordered dude
cheers
glad to be of help!
I rung up jimmy\'s in Norwich, and asked for the two drive auxillary belts. I dunno if that\'s what their called but he knew what i meant. One is slightly longer than the other.
I didn\'t find it too hard but if you have any agg let us know.
:cool
hehe my digital camera will be on standby should anything go wrong ;)
Anyway gotta be better than paying Mazda to do it... not that any of them would touch a rex round here anyway! :D
Apparently there\'s a graphite spray you can use that has the same effect as WD40 but lasts ages (not justa few hours).
Iain
mmm if ya find out what it\'s called do let me know... gonna replace mine anyway as my mechanic thought it was about time they were done... but wouldn\'t mind lubing it up with that :)
Graphite sprays aren\'t hard to get hold of - I\'d expect Halfords to have them. If not, nip into a mo\'bike dealers and ask him for a can of graphite cable lube...
I\'m gonna have to stop using the back and refresh buttons - only realise a second too late that I\'ve just posted the same reply twice...
hehe thanks nonetheless mate :)
can anyone tell the contact details for Jimmys please.
Does he do other parts like the air pump. As mine siezed and it makes one hell of a squeael and it cuts the engine out as it stops dead.
Thx
Raju

Right got my belts nice n quicky from Jimmy\'s...so on they go this Saturday... i\'m clearing the garage in preperation hehe (say garage its more like a junk pit)
ANYWAY... when putting the belts on do I need to lube them with anything or are they ok just to go right on as I planned?
thanks! :p
sorry for bumpin up a old thread
but my belt has a slight rip on it, the belts form jimmys is that a new price or second?
also do you have to do anything to the belt prior to putting it on ?!
any step by step guides to change this or is it a fairly simple job ?
thanks
shaQ
Hey shaq
Yeah get new ones.. don\'t get 2nd hand. They should be replaced every x miles anyway afaik
This was a few months ago now so if i\'m wrong with anything please correct me someone... As I remember, no you don\'t have to put anything on it like greese or anything, the belts are coated with grip stuff that clings to the pullys so I don\'t think lube or any sorts would do any good *ooer* :p
It\'s a real simple job, it\'s just a crapper, they are not the easiest things to get off/on.
You have to undone the TENSIONER not any of the pullys to get the belts off.
Once you\'ve done that, best to have someone with ya holding the pullys to get a bit of slack on them. The air pump one I found much easier to get off them the other but with a bit of perseverance you\'ll get them in the end. Just don\'t expect a walk in the park with it hehe. Here\'s a pic of the tensioner that you need to undo and redo...that lil black arm near the alternator

gonna be doing my plugs n ht leads today so if ya need any help i\'m around :)
