In the ads at the back of Banzai this month is a turbo described as a T3/T4 TO4e turbo, new, £290
Quoted as being able to be fitted to any car.
Before I make an idiot of myself and consider buying this, what else would I need to fit this to the car, and does this even sound remotely kosher in the first place ???
Seems a bit cheap.
It\'s gonna be waaaaay too small with a T3 hotside, plus at £290 it\'s probably an XS Power turbo or something similar, best avoided.
When (if !) I finally decide for a single setup, what inlet/ outlet sizing should I be looking at if I find one 2nd hand ?
You need a T4 footprint with a minimum of .85 hotside [1.0 would be better] then it is a case of matching what compressor you need to get to the power you desire.

Dismissing any turbo due to its T3 footprint is kind of rubbish - GT3582R being a prefect e.g. :2Confused
Ahhh but does a GT3582R cost £290? For that money you just know it\'s gonna be one of these spazzy T3/T4 hybrids you usually see on fleabay promising 600+ hp on any engine.
a la http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/T3-T4-HYBRID-TURBO-CAPABLE-OF-STEADY-400HP_W0QQitemZ220031848693QQihZ012QQcategoryZ72205QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
TBH, i imagine a lot of those spazzy turbos are fine I expect, lesser grade and likely not to last as long - but not having ever tried one I\'d keep my mind open until I see hear of any first hand experience of one on an FD :-D
Wouldnt recommend that one tho, as its internally gated :)
Hmmm, I dunno. I\'ve seen a few threads on rx7club.com where these cheap turbos (particularly XS Power) have just come apart, unbalanced shafts snapping, compressor wheels striking housings, bits going into engines. It just seems that if you\'re going to the expense of converting to single turbo, then why skimp on the most important component?
